ralphwiggum
Greetings fellow Hackintosh user's, I have been happily using Leopard for months now (truth be told I use OSX more than I do windows!!!!) without problems, I knew exactly what kexts to install after a few failed installs so it is running sweet, but I decided to see how leopard compares to snowleopard so got myself a retail disc and proceeded to follow a few guides for this particular mobo, none of them worked for me, I even tried SL universal 3.5 but that didnt work either and from what I have read in a few forum's it's advised to stay away from that & use a retail install (I wouldn't know, only what I have read, nothing against universal ) i finally followed this guide SnowLeopard retail install This booted up no problems but without audio & hardware accelerated gfx which I knew wouldn't work anyway as I didn't use any kexts yet, but there are a few things in that guide I don't understand, namely the kexts that I did install, what are they for and what do they do??? These one's: FakeSMC v2 OpenHaltRestart PlatformUUID NullCPUPM Could someone explain what each one is for please? The author of that guide does recommend using an EFI string for gfx, is that simply a case of using OSX86tools and adding my cards EFI? Also which kext to use for audio? Snow reset's without problems but doesn't shutdown, it just hangs on the blue screen, any reason why it would do that? I realise this is my first post & ask's a fair bit, but if I don't ask I'll never know!!!! Regards. p.s - PC specs in sig, obviously! EDIT: Scratch the gfx question, just injected EFI string with OSX tools & it seems to be working fine EDIT 2:Attached a snap of SL running, this was last night so it's was running without EFI injected! EDIT3:Answering my own questions here! Doh! I just installed "VoodooHDA.kext" & now have audio, woot! Also the added pic's are using EFI string at 1440x900x32 List of all Kexts that I added: FakeSMC.kext OpenHaltRestart.kext PlatformUUID.kext NullCPUPowerManagement.kext VoodooHDA.kext AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext Once I figure out what these kexts are and understand them a bit better I intend to write an install guide for the Asus mobo im using, I know there are other's but what works for one is not guaranteed to work for another so will be good to add to the guide list!
