Hello,

I have successfully installed the IPC 10.5.6 on my Dell Dimension 5150.

Kernel: 9.5.0 voodoo Kernel

However, the network card dosen't work.

I have download the 8255 patch AppleIntel8255x.kext. But when i try to install it with the below command(other commands before this one all succeed ):

...

...

sudo kextload -v /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext

an error shows up:

kextload: loading extension /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext

kextload: loaded version 2.4.1 of module com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily differs from requested version 2.5

It seem the versions don't match.

Could anyone please help?

Many thanks.

Mazclin

I'm not sure if I can help in any definite way, I'm still an OSx86 newb, but I had some trouble with this on a Dell and finally got it working, so I can recommend trying a couple of things that MIGHT work.

For some reason I had no ethernet selecting this kext in iDeneb 10.5.5 install, but it worked perfectly in iDeneb 10.5.6 selecting 100/10 Pro VE and Voodoo kernel. If you're really stuck, you could switch to iDeneb. I've finally gotten that install to 10.5.8 on a Dimension 4500, but it was a bumpy road.

The only thing I can really recommend trying wrt installing you particular kext, is download OSx86 Tools. It has a GUI feature to install kexts. Maybe the more automated way will take care of whatever you're missing? If that doesn't work, post back and I can check what is installed on my system.

Another piece of info in case you haven't already seen it. When I was having problems with mine, some searches turned up people who had to edit their vendor ID into the .plist file within the kext. You can find these numbers also using OSx86 Tools (an invaluable program to have for many reasons), but I'd try the other things first. Post back if they don't work and I'll see if I can find my kext and a link to where to get it. (You could extract it from the iDeneb 10.5.6 install presumably).

Groovely,

Thank you so much.

I have re-installed iDeneb 10.5.6 selecting 100/10 Pro VE and Voodoo kernel, as you said, and modifed the device ID. But unfortunately it still doesn't work.

Anyway, I will try to re-installed the system by iDeneb 10.5.8.

Any result, I will come back.

Sorry if this goes without saying, but have you tried just leaving the kext alone without modifying the device ID? Mine worked as it was. Also, I would try iDeneb v1.4 10.5.6 first as this is the version that had the kext that worked for me (whereas the same listed kext under v1.3 didn't). Then, if stable, move to 10.5.8 using the updater pkg (which you can download directly, no need to burn). I can send more detailed instructions later if you need them (probably going to update the wiki with my tribulations soon).

Sorry Tony, I've been too tired while doing this. I just reread your first post in more detail and realized, it's possible that the kext you have is fine, but you haven't installed it correctly. I thought you were choosing it at the time you installed everything.

If you're adding it later, the easiest thing I've found is to use a program called OSx86Tools. You can use the GUI and choose 'install kexts'.

Once its installed, I always run 'repair disk permissions' 'clear kext cache' and 'repair kext permissions' and then reboot just to be safe based on a few posts I've read. (Again, I'm new, so try to play it safe). I would do this first, I don't know if it's right, but I hope it helps.
