vetsen
I have built a half dozen osx86 boxes and have had no problems until now. Here is my setup: Asus P5QPL-AM Intel Quad Core Q8400 4 GB RAM Corsair Nvidia 7200GS 256 MB Chameleon 2 R431 Vanilla Kernel GPT Boot IPC install DVD with CPUS=1 Vannila: If I install using the IPC 10.5.6 it hangs at "Using XXXX buffer headers and xxxx cluster IO buffer headers" If I install with the AHCI patch and CPUS=1 then everything is great. How do enable all 4 cores? I can install SL with all cores enabled. I have tried several other 10.5 install DVDs. The only two that will boot (even with CPUS=1) is iDeneb and IPC. vetsen
I installed VooDoo Kernel and it is getting a little bit further now. I've been spending way too much time on this. I hope i find a solution soon. vetsen
I didn't find a solution. I bought a new board (P5QPL-VM EPU) from newegg. I updated it with Juzzi's patched bios update. Now everything works great. Now i'm a happy camper. I spent two weeks trying to make this work on the P5QPL-AM and no success. vetsen
I have been getting a few questions about installing 10.5 on a P5QPL-VM EPU The key for me was a patched BIOS from Juzzi Make sure that you know what you are doing here. It worked for me no problem (don't blame me for any loss of data or harware) Update BIOS with Juzzi's patch using the ez flash update tool in the BIOS (no windows required) Boot From IPC 10.5.6 PPF5 (you might need to boot with the flags cpus=1 -v) launch Disk Utility once you get past the lanuage screen Select your target HD and set it up as GPT (GUID Partition Table) and Journaled HFS+ Quit disk Utility hit next til you can pick your newly formated drive, and select it, and hit next until you come to the customize screen pick the following: In drivers: ICHXX (for the ICH7 chipset in this board) Video: Pick what you are using, for me it is Natit In patches: Open Halt Restart (to fix boot and shutdown KP) SMBIOS 27 rev 3 Mac Pro (to fix the "about this mac" report) BootLoaders: Chemeleon (standard osx86 bootloader (custom logo optional)) Programs: OSX86 Tools (back up kexts, install kexts, ad EFI strings to apple.boot.plist etc) Kext helper (to install audio and network kexts) Perian (a great tool to playback almost any video format) Pacifist (to manually install PKGs) Sound and network will be taken care of after we have a running OS click install. you may be able to skip the disc verification- up to you After instal is sucsessful you will have to wait through the welcome to Leopard movie Enter in all of the User info Set up your user name and password. it's late, i'll finish this later Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/196814-asus-p5qpl-am-how-to-enable-all-4-cores/#findComment-1330454 Share on other sites
