cocoa noir
either a PD 805 or 930. I need firewire on the board. Otherwise, I'm looking for a reliable board that can handle overclocking with one of these chips. Really, I'm thinking of the 930 with the above intel board for osx86 compatibility, but I'd like to save some money with the 805 if I can bump up the speed. I haven't found a good board with firewire that will do the job. If anyone has a suggestion, I would appreciate it. munky
i recommend the pentium D, and definitely a 945 (or later) chipset board. however, intel boards do not do overclocking in any meaningful way, so you might be better off going for a non-intel board with an intel chipset (if you see what i mean). that said, i originally intended to do just that, but went for the intel D945GTPLR. runs sweet. i have had some issues with firewire, but im now thinking that might be my dodgy fw cable. bofors has had much success with the D945GNTLKR, including firewire. check out his box thread: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=7393&hl= Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19663-intel-boxd945gntlkr-or-equivalent-with-firewire/#findComment-128965 Share on other sites
cocoa noir
Thanks, the bofors thread was my first introduction to the osx86 project. he inspired my to try it for myself. I guess the best thing would be to go with the real deal and stick with and Intel board. RiceTea
Firewire PCI-cards are dirt cheap and are supported by OSX86 as far as I could see. I wouldn´t base the buying decision on this point. As pointed out by munky, the Intel mobos don´t overclock... either a PD 805 or 930. I need firewire on the board. Otherwise, I'm looking for a reliable board that can handle overclocking with one of these chips. Really, I'm thinking of the 930 with the above intel board for osx86 compatibility, but I'd like to save some money with the 805 if I can bump up the speed.
