Una
I downloaded iPC 10.5.6 Final version, burnt it normally, and tried to boot with it. When I boot with -v, it just hangs with the "Still Waiting for Root Device" message. I have a Compaq Presario V2570NR laptop. Configurations are AMD Turion 64 ML-32 Motherboard:Quanta 3093 2048MB of RAM ATI MOBILITY RADEON XPRESS 200M I have a unallocated 15GB of hard drive that I partitioned from my main drive. I'm trying to dual boot Windows 7 and Mac OS X. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/196443-still-waiting-for-root-device/ Share on other sites

Beerkex'd
He can't boot the install DVD. OP: Try changing settings for the drive controller (Southbridge) in your BIOS. If it still doesn't work, try a different installation DVD. You need to find your Southbridge make and model so you can use it as a search term to find a distro with support for it. If you don't know what that means, look up "southbridge" or "chipset" on Wikipedia. Or you can try an external DVD drive via USB. My southbridge model is sb400, but I don't know how to change the settings in the BIOS. I don't think it has anything that you could change the drive controller. Beerkex'd
You need to find a distribution that has support for the SB400. Many of the distros have a forum or website detailing what hardware is supported on the DVD, or at least which kernel extensions are on it. So you will need to find out the name of the kernel extension that drives the SB400 drive controller. I think it's called ATIATA.kext but I don't know if that one is SB700 only. Search.
