Hi, I am new to the whole osx86 scene but I am fairly computer savvy and would like to give it a try. Ok here is the thing, I have a Gateway GT5662 with the following specs:

Mobo: mcp61pm-gm

Processor: AMD Phenom 9500 (2.2 Ghz)

Ram: 3Gb (if this matters)

Graphics card: ATi Radeon HD 2400XT

Input: PS/2 Keyboard and USB mouse (I will explain later why I included this)

nVidia Nforce SATA controller

I also have both SATA and IDE HDDs. (also explained later)

Okay so now donw to the problem. The first distro that I downloaded was iATKOS v7 and was able to boot from disk and install after a few attempts. The first install however, I didn't know to customize the install and just installed with whatever was chosen by default - the result, no PS/2 functionality. The OS booted up and I was greeted by music and the welcome menus where you choose the keyboard language etc., but since I didn't select the ApplePS/2 kext, my keyboard didn't work and therefore I was unable to get any further than the registration menu. (trust me I tried everything, even copy/paste from the agreement text but that didn't work). So after that I decided to re-install from the disk this time making sure to select the PS/2 drivers - result, install failed. Since then, I have managed to install several different times all the way through but never able to get to the menus again. The latest install from the disk gave me a "waiting on root device" error. I read somewhere that by setting the SATA drive in the BIOS to AHCI but for some reason my BIOS shows no such setting. After giving up on that, I tried circumvent that problem by instead using an IDE drive and I STILL got the same error. With the IDE drive I even tried disconnecting my other 2 SATA HDDs and just leaving the IDE HDD and DVDRW drive and also switching the jumber back and forth (setting one as primary master and the other as primary slave and vice versa) and still no luck. I keep getting the "witing on root device" error. So after reading up some more on different forums, I obtained some different distros of the osx86 namely: Kalyway 10.5.2 Intel/AMD and LawlessPPC AMD Phenom edition.

Starting with the Kalyway distro, I can't even get past the loading of the kexts. The system keeps rebooting itself incessantly. Here I have only tried the IDE HDD and IDE DVDRW drive. I have NOT tried using the SATA HDDs.

With the Lawless distro, I have booted with all combinations of the -v, -f, and -x flags and I can't seem to get past a line where it says the model name of my computer. I think it is also worth mentioning that during this install both the SATA HDDs were disconnected.

I would appreciate if anyone would be able to give any suggestions as to how I might be able to fix these problems or suggesting a different distro or if by chance someone with a similar configuration would be able to share what they did to get it working.

If there is any other info that I could provide to better understand what is going on with the boot/install process I would be happy to upload pics/vids of the process.
