First off. I'm Brand new, this is my first post. Hi.

Here's my setup:

ep45t-ud3lr mobo

Q9550 Core2Quad

4gb patriot ddr3 1333 mhz ram

evga geforce 9800gtx+

Antec solo case, w/ thermaltake 500w psu

500gb slow WD hard drive

wmp54gs I already had

I'm a newb dragged into this by the lifehacker guide and my macbook frying a couple months ago. This guide was great to start from, but it really is not at all made for the ep45t-ud3lr. So I made fixes/completely redid some of it. This stuff is all over this forum, I don't take the credit for any of this...

Problems with the lifehacker guide on this mobo:

-High cpu temps at idle... mine never left 70 degrees

-No sound... the guide was for the ALC889a chipset, not the ud3lr's ALC888

-No silverlight.... that means no netflix ;)

Here's how I fixed it:

-Read all of Stellarola's blog and thread. Got the halloween version of his installer (thats kind of a no-brainer). His new extensions.mkext fixes the high cpu temps and silverlight business. Thanks Stella! Don't facepalm me for using the wrong mobo!

-Compiled my own DSDT using Koalala's DSDT Patcher and v5 of the mobo's firmware. I followed Blackosx's instructions here in PDF format, which are written for the EP45-DS3L, but they completely apply to the ep45t-ud3lr. Thanks koalala and blackosx!

-Manually edited the DSDT file using DSDTSE (which rox btw). Fixes were for proper USB wakup and the CMOS reset. The USB Wakeup fix is here thanks to ApexDE and the CMOS reset fix is here thanks to SaCleoCheater.

-Found a new LegacyHDA for SL and the ALC888... found it here thanks to tmongkol. Thanks tmongkol!

-Inserted my DSDT file into stella's halloween edition of his installer package in contents/resources/extra, replacing his. I also used mkexttool to extract his extensions.mkext, and kextutility to recompile a new extensions.mkext that replaces his legacyHDA with tmongkol's for the ALC888. Don't ask me why I used different programs there.

-Edited the com.apple.boot.plist to boot in 32 bit mode, and edited smbios.plist to have the system reflect my DDR3 ram.

All I had to do from there was run my new updated installer package and the computer is running GREAT. I'm talking I have had no problems with silverlight, ilife08, itunes, microsoft office, parallels, temperature monitor, and my wireless hp printer. So basically if you have a setup EXACTLY like the lifehacker guide EXCEPT the MOBO, then you can use my installer package/dsdt/extensions.mkext that I'm attaching instead of the one provided by lifehacker!

I have 4 minor problems though:

-The computer does not fall to sleep automatically, as setup in energy saver in system preferences.

-It does not boot into 64 bit mode! I'm like wtf since the only kext I've replaced from stella's kexts is the legacyHDA, which apparently should work in x64 SL. (I'll get a pic of the screen where it freezes with a verbose kernel flag)

-No recognition of IDE drives. Well, they randomly appeared twice, after I had rebooted after editing bios settings. But the IDE drives have since disappeared. IDK that might be a hopeless case.

-I can't get connect360 to work with my Xbox... and I don't think that I've set it up wrong bc I've done this before with my macbook. It has to be something with the on-board network card, but I have no idea.

So any help with those problems, questions, high fives would be great.

Great Job...

I have 10.5.8 on a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P (first a EP43-DS3L) which was originally a iDeneb 5.5 install since last December but have wanted for some time to do a retail install using a 132 or similar but when something is working well even with Adobe Web Suite and other apps why break it?

Well for less than the price of any version of Windows 7 I picked up Snow Leopard and a new 1TB Seagate and success! 10.5.8 and 10.6.1 on different drives. Of course not that easy especially trying to get the OSInstall.mpkg install to work, which I gave up on. It is not that it did not install but after the install some strange things like not being able to verify permissions and KP after making one change or another. Oh and what a nice surprise to have the CMOS messed up after having to power down and have to start over… now what were those settings? Hey DSDT.AML a new adventure… I guess too many years (decades) in the Windows world. Sorry drifting…

I had just wanted to comment on 2 items with no brainer solutions. I really did try to fix the IDE problem but then thought hey it is a 3 year old plus DVD Burner so I bought a new SATA and since even Macs have problems falling to sleep I downloaded “PleaseSleep” program and it works like a charm. Free but would appreciate a donation…

Not real FIXES but worked for me with little effort. I am so in love with the new Snow install (owing it all to those you mentioned) that my wife can’t stand me and we were married over 10 years when I got my first TRS80 Model 1. I guess she would appreciate my fascination if it were less time consuming.

Hi 55555555555555ssss This does work and only needs a change because ofthe sleep enabler after 10.6.2 Update which broke the install. Please if you could do another update I was enable to get things working really well with the frontend installer for Snow Leopard DDST is brokern and thsi works so well with alc 888 now
