I'm not sure where to go next. When I first built my hackintosh, sound worked out of the box, running 10.6.1 on a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P. The audio chipset is Realtek ALC889A. My case is an antec 900, which has audio in and out ports on the front. When I tried to plug my headphones into the case's audio jack, my sound died completely on Snow Leopard, and almost completely on Windows XP (the only sound I can get is through the case headphone port). I'm at a loss of how to proceed from here. Windows diagnostic software knows that speaker cable and headphones are both connected, and knows which jacks they are plugged into. I've tried plugging speakers/headphones into various ports in the futile hope that I'd get something, but it seems like nothing in that regard works. It's been this way for nearly a week, and several reboots during that time. I suspect Snow Leopard permanently thinks that headphones are plugged in somewhere, so that it won't play anything over speakers, but it also won't play anything over headphones. I've googled a few variations on 'hackintosh antec 900 kext/headphone jack/sound', and went nowhere. I'm sure there's a more intelligent search, but I can't think of what it might be.
