jabalsad
Hi all, I bought a Asus P5Q Turbo motherboard with onboard RAID5, however I am not able to use it because the BIOS needs to be in AHCI mode I need to buy a hardware RAID card and my choices are the following: - Promise TX4310 - Vantec ugt-ST310R (uses a Silicon Image Sil3114 chip I believe) - Lian-li BZ-U06 Which one will work with Snow Leopard and would I need any special kexts to get RAID5 working? Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195859-hardware-raid5/ Share on other sites
crazyJAT
For anyone still interested, hnak made a driver to support many unsupported PATA/SATA devices. It works in both Snow Leopard and Leopard. I have confirmed myself that this driver works with the Sil3114, but only on port 0 and 1. You can download it here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=201917 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195859-hardware-raid5/#findComment-1671588 Share on other sites
Angel Bunny
As far as I can tell (or at least on every mobo I've looked at) RAID mode is AHCI mode with just more options, but don't quote me on that. The main thing to keep in mind is motherboard raid is 'fake raid' or software raid, so even in the mobo if you raided your drives, osx would not see that raid. You would have to raid them in Disk Utility directly. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195859-hardware-raid5/#findComment-1676993 Share on other sites
