Hi! I've just found "AppleNForceATA.kext", and I'm hoping it'll help me to resolve the "still waiting for root device" error I get when trying to install with iPC. But I have no idea where to put this file. Any ideas?

And another thing I wondered, since I'm new to all this hackintosh stuff - do I need to do any special preparations like formatting my drive to the HFS filesystem, or simply creating a new, empty partition? I've looked for tutorials, but haven't found any that describes my issue very well.

Ether to install DVD (if don't have OS X installed yet) or to HDD e.g. /System/Library/Extensions (if you have OS X installed accordingly). However, there are many things you should know before doing such manipulations.

I order to install someting, one will need a room for it, right? So a partition is needed for OS X too. The exact choose depends on how/what is/to be installed. If you plan to use Windows and OS X, then create a new partition (by resizing existing Windows partition, or creating it from a free space, if present). If OS X is going to be the only OS, formate the whole drive.

Now to format the drive, you will definitely going to need some extra tools, like GpartedLiveCD. Format an OS X target partition to FAT. Then boot to OS X install DVD. Format the partition to HFS+ journaled.

I'll just put the .kext file some random place on the disc? If I'm supposed to browse for the .kext from within the installer, that's great, but it doesen't really help much when I don't even get into the installer, it stops loading while waiting for the root device. Maybe I've misunderstood, but I need the driver for my chipset so that the installer finds my HDD, right?

I plan to install OSX alongside my Ubuntu installation. I don't care much about my XP installation at the moment, since I've already mirrored it to my external HDD.

I have Ubuntu installed alongside Windows XP, but I'll make a new FAT partition which can be mergable with the XP partition. I always use Gparted, so that's nothing new to me.

"Still waiting..." error doesn't necessary mean a chipset driver is missing (though in most cases it is so). It may also mean that you need to check BIOS settings (ACHI-on) and how DVD and disk drives are connected. DVD must be a primary master, HDD must be a secondary master. These options may differ from MB to MB. Not all of thema are present. Check these options. If doesn't help, try updating chipset driver. These drivers are stored in a folder, so need to be placed inside that folder - not to any place on a disk.

You may also create a bootable OS X install USB pen drive.

My HDD is currently plugged into the SATA1 connection, how do I plug it into the IDE2 connection? The cables are completely different, and it doesen't look like my HDD has a SATA out.

EDIT: I did to photos:

# My MB - http://bildr.no/image/531116.jpeg

anyone?

I suggest you do a lot of searching & reading, your last questions re IDE & sata cables can be found via google.

Also-"where do I put the kext?" tells me you have not done the research.

People will help you on this forum, but you have to do some of the work yourself.

And bumping your thread is bad manners, people do read threads, if they can't or wont help, is up to them.

I suggest you read this http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=198992 and this http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
