UPDATE: Tried Apple Software Update [to update safari, itunes, and osx to 10.5.8] , installation hung on 'Running Install Scripts' I let it be for about 10 minutes, then rebooted manually. Back in, and updated to 10.5.8, Safari is on 4, iTunes also up to date. Either I got lucky or the kernel works.

Hey everyone, this is my first OSx86 installation, and after a day of trial and error yesterday, I finally got my Dell E520 running 10.5.6 with [what I think is] the vanilla kernel. [installed through iPC 10.5.6]

First the specs:

Dell E520

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 ghz

2GB Ram

ATi Radeon X1300/X1500 Series

250 GB Hard Drive

So here is my issue: I am unsure of whether or not I have the vanilla kernel actually in my installation. I checked my kernel through the terminal and it came out with "Darwin Kernel 9.6.0".

If that is the vanilla kernel, would it be safe for me to update directly through software update?

My goal is to be running a version that is close enough to retail for me to simply update from Apple. If my current installation can't do that, I'd appreciate a push in the right direction to get it running.
