Hey folks, I'd appreciate some help here as I couldn't find anything posted yet.

I've been thinking of getting an Acer Aspire Easystore H340 unit and running an SL server on it. I prefer a single unit 4-bay installation over the Mac Mini + extra (firewire) drives for aesthetic and space-saving concerns (if only they made the Mini Server with additional bays).

There're a few problems when considering running SL on it.

First of all when I tried to pull down the specs for this model from the Acer site it of course asked me for a serial number which I don't have. Newegg lists H340 as having Intel Atom Processor 230 1.6Ghz and Intel 945GC Express Chipset + ICH7R. I know there're also a Gigabit ethernet card and some WLAN card but I have no idea where to get exact specs on them.

AFAIK there's no video-card and no USB ports to hook up kbd/mouse, so I'll need to install SL on a HDD while it's connected to a different machine, configure remote access and then insert it into Easystore. Most of the SL install instructions I've read describe installation on the target machine, you think it will be possible to install SL on another machine and then insert that HDD into Easystore to boot from?

Any help on that (or suggestions for running an elegant Mac Mini solution with 5TB of storage) would be appreciated!

Hey stangri,

it is possible - i've just done it in the last days and running l server 10.6.2. on it!

You will experience unsolvable problems wih the integrated ethernet from marvel - 88e8071 - i havn't found anybodz who has solved the kext with this nic.

I'm using an apple usb nic and hav ordered an intel nic for the pcie slot to have two nic's..

just follow the guides for a vanilla install - most components run out of the box on the easystore, but you need to run it in 32bit mode to have the graphics working well.

also you need a custom vga adapter for the easystore to make the setup. There are several threads on the net for a vga solution and the h340. i've purchased a pecial cable for the vga port to connect a display..

so have fun... :thumbsup_anim:
