Advocate_HF
Right guys, Hands down, which is the BEST motherboard to get to run Snow Leopard with minimal patches? I would like to install the retail with minimal fuss. Just give me a few options and I'll decide, I pretty much have everything else, case, psu, ssd, atheros wifi pci - now just need the beez neez motherboard ;-) cheers guys! p.s. I hear the P5Q Deluxe with EFI BIOS is a good choice, agree?? geiman
yeah thats a pretty good choice; most of the p45 boards mentioned here will suit your purpose. I'm running the ga-ep45c-ud3r and only use a dsdt, openhaltrestart.kext, and fakesmc.kext in my install. Besides that, its a completely vanilla install. If i was building now, I'd probably use the ASUS P6T7. Aquamac put one in his G5 case mod, and it looks very very nice. You can check out his success with it here: http://www.s155158671.websitehome.co.uk/asusp6t7g5!.html Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/194817-buying-motherboard-for-snow-leopard/#findComment-1314108 Share on other sites

I have another system with X58 EVGA Classified, but wanted to use my surpless case and gear as a hackintosh. But now that i've seen the P6T7, I'm VERY tempted.... frenchc
The only thing I don't like about the Asus P6T7 is the amount of kexts needed. Has anyone been able to get it under five kexts with a patched DSDT? If so, I would be all about it. Gigabyte_ep45c
The best board I discovered was the Gygabyte EP45C-UD3R, I have a 3.06Ghz Pentium Dual Core with 4Gb of crucial memory a 500Gb Seagate Barracuda Geforce 8400 512Mb Video Card. I took my old ibook mac made a .dmg of an original snow leopard dvd I purchased onto the harddrive. Plugged in an external harddrive, formatted it as a single partition Mac Journal with the guid option. Restored the sl .dmg to the hard drive. Used iatkos sl dvd to boot, when it gave me the option I pressed f8 and selected the drive with snow leopard on it, it installed beautifully on my drive, the only thing it did not recognise was my sound card. I proceeded to do all the updates with no issues at all. The only draw back is booting from the dvd drive, but once it loads the OS you can use the drive. This has been the best install of the Macosx I have come across. Hope this helps.
