Hello folks:

After reading that my PC can start a beautiful relationship with a Mac and since I have a Mac and was able to get a retail SL DVD install disk-I began reading on this forum and being (informationally) challenged-I have set myself the challenge to try installing SL on my PC which is a:

Dell Dimension 9100 series

3.2 Ghz P4 Dual Core (Prescott) with nVida 7600 GS, 3 GB RAM

SATA, and DVDRW drives X2

BIOS set to RAID AutoDetect/AHCI (no option for plain AHCI-as far as I can see)

I tried several boot CDs meant for Inspiron, Dim 6400 etc but of no avail (no surprise)-I am able to boot the CD (with some errors saying eBIOS read error-or something) and the Mac OSx install DVD loads pages and pages of verbose and then at some point spits out some message and then shuts down and reboots the machine-after which I am in darkness!

I noticed long back munky had a boot CD with a modbin kernel for Leopard for Pentium D machines but is there any boot CD out there with a mod kernel for SL on the Pentium Ds?

And yes-I have read multiple pages of all the guides but the problem for me is to get to the screen to actually get the apple logo itself! Maybe this is a problem with my hardware and perhaps I am chasing a pipedream but-if there is someone out there who has been successful on this machine-please chime in and educate me...

Hey, I have a P4 Prescott as well (3.0 w/ HT). The only disc I have successfully run on this machine is a Kalyway install (10.5.1, I think?). Good luck though -- this machine is no fun, dimensions are a little old! :(

Also, to enable your network card, you may have to mess around with a few kexts. Also, the intro video will loop infinitely due to the network card's inability to run without some meddling. There are commands to run if you boot using the -s (single user) flag that will fix the loop, however.

Good luck!

Thanks for the repsonse bowmessage. I guess my hackiresponsentosh project will have to remain a pipe dream. The machine serves my current low tech use that I am loathe to indulge my mac cravings by ditching the Dimension for the present...somewhere over the rainbow... :(
