*SOLVED*Error when trying to restart after installation & won't boot into OS X (Hangs on grey screen)*SOLVED*

Finally solved the problem and got OS X running now :D

All I had to do in the customization was add the generic IDE driver!!

Everything is pretty good so far; I've got sound and internet working... My display is only at 1024 x 768 though which I would like to put at 1440x900 but it's only showing one possible resolution! :)

Ok so I've managed to install iAtkos 7 10.5.7 after a really slow install but when it gets to the restarting part it freezes and a some huge error appears... So I manually turn off my PC and back on again and let it try to boot into OS X, but each time it just sits at a grey screen with an Apple logo.

I've tried 4 installations with altered customizations and each time I get the same problem when trying to restart, and the same grey screen upon booting attempt (this grey screen sometimes loads for a few minutes before a small "Universal No" symbol appears at the top of the apple logo, but continues to load infinitely after; sometimes, though, it just displays the apple logo with no loading indicator and no "Universal No" symbol).

What I would like to know is

- Why do I get an error when it tries to restart?

- Why won't it boot into OS X, does this relate to the first problem?

- What exactly should I change in the customization before installing?

Motherboard: Nvidia 7050M-M / nForce 630a

Processor: AMD Phenom 8450 Triple-Core 2.1Ghz

Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 200GB IDE Formatted to Mac OS X Journaled

Standard USB keyboard and mouse

I am also wondering why the disk utility displays my hard drive as only 128 GB when I've completely erased it to clean install OS X...

I really hope someone can help me out here as I'm eager to install OS X and see if it really is worth buying a MacBook Pro.

Thanks in advance!

  • 2 weeks later...

Im hanging at the same spot you were.

It seems to me like a hard drive error, since ive encountered a similar screen with HD errors on real macs. So changing something to do with IDE like you did makes sense to me. All this time other threads i have read targeted video cards as the issue, so i had been playing around on those lines.

any chance of a step by step explanation of what you did? Im still learning commands. Doing what you did with the IDE controller, would that be something i add using the F8 key and commands at the prompt?

much appreciated.

if system specs help, here they are

AMD Black Edition 2600

ASUS M3A mobo

EVGA 8800GT (512 mb)

Western Digital IDE hard drive (primary master)

Generic IDE DVD burner (primary slave, the two IDE devices are on the same ribbon cable)

2 Gigs Corsair Ram (actually 3 but it isnt seeing one gig for some reason, i can deal with that later though)

Erase -> Customize installation and find the generic IDE driver -> install.
