JimmayVV
First of all, I tried posting this with little results in the post-install forum, so I'm re-posting this here, as it may be more appropriate in this forum. If not, well, I'm sorry. Ok. I think my title is as descriptive as I can be. Basically my issue is that when I log in to OS X, graphics don't work. I think the OS loads up fine on my Hackintosh, but for some reason the screen is frozen/won't update. Before I get ahead of myself I want to say I have tried searching these forums, but it apparently wasn't working for me. I got "server could not be found errors." I tried google, and had no luck there either. I even tried plugging in the "site:insanelymac.com" command at the end of my query (which brought me headaches due to some posts being in 'lo-fi' versions, and some being in different modes, and duplicate entries due to the different url's in the lo-fi versions from the regular). Basically, I tried to find the answer before I felt I had to post this. Also for your information my specs are: - Motherboard: Gigabyte P43-ES3G (specs: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=gigabyte+p43-es3g+specs) - Graphics: nVidia GeForce 8800GT - CPU: Intel QX6850 Quad-Core Extreme 3.00 GHz processor - Memory: I forget. It's PC2-6400 I think but I have no idea the brand. But I don't think this is a memory issue. Umm, I can't think of any other relevant information. I am just using LAN basically. PHEW. With that out of the way, here is a more detailed account of what the problem is (and why it is so confusing): Basically I installed OS X on my PC using a modified disk. I didn't do a vanilla install because for some reason my Boot 132 disk didn't allow me to use my dual-layer DVD I burned of the retail OS X disk. The version I used I had labeled XxX 10.5.5 Beta. I hope that makes sense. I don't know if that's a legitimate release or not. I downloaded it a while ago. Basically this install worked great. I used mostly default options. All I added from the install was graphics drivers nvinject 512MB (since my graphics card is nvdia with 512MB memory). I forget what version of nvinject this was. I think it said version 0.2 but don't quote me on that. I really am just trying to remember what it was. It's not something I thought was important at the time, so I didn't pay a lot of attention to it (yes I know, if I was trying to be thorough I would have written down every step I took for debug purposes, as opposed to using my brain. I know, I wasn't thinking). But anyway, like I said it worked great. I know I am here reporting a problem, but I got this up and running with little problems. Everything but sound seemed to work right out of the box. I found a couple of kext's that fixed that, and I was good to go. I used this well-documented procedure to do a combo update to 10.5.8 (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=107340). That worked great too. I was able to install Chameleon 2 RC3 and it worked great, and as I'm sure you can tell by all these additions that I was able to successfully restart multiple times. Ok, with all that behind me, here's where the problems started. During all this I was only interacting with one of my hard drives. I set the hard drive with OS X as my primary hard drive in BIOS. The whole time, though, I had a separate hard drive with Windows Vista on it. After I was comfortable with the place I had OS X at, I decided to boot into Vista to try to get Dual-booting working. Then I would have my dream set-up, and should have been good to go. So, I boot back up into Chameleon, and this time I select my vista drive, and presto! I'm in Vista! So now I think I have this working flawlessly. You would too, right? ANYWAY... After I confirmed I had Vista working, I wanted to go into OS X and, you know, enjoy my new shiny OS. Problem is, when I got to the point of the gray apple logo, I didn't see a cycling black icon underneath it. It just kind of sat there. I could hear the hard drive working, and around the time I would normally expect to see the desktop (meaning: normal amount of time, nothing seemed slow), I saw a blue screen come up with my mouse, only I couldn't move the mouse. After waiting a couple of more minutes, I heard my hard drive halt, and nothing seemed to be happening. My mouse wasn't working, but I didn't get a kernel panic either. Yeah, weird. After this I booted back into Chameleon and booted into verbose mode. I was able to type, and see my text characters appear and manipulate onscreen here, so I know graphics were working at that point. I let OS X load up, and it didn't return any errors. I saw the call to the login window so I thought all was good. This time I saw my desktop and it seemed to load completely (icons, background, toolbar and all), but I was never given control of the machine. The mouse was still frozen. I even tried moving it around and randomly clicking seeing if I might cause an event to happen, as I was trying to see if maybe the video was borked, but maybe the OS was still working blindly beneath borked graphics. But nothing seemed to cause the hard drive to whir up. Basically here's where I'm at: I'm convinced the entire OS froze, as opposed to the graphics just failing. Obviously I don't see what action I can do to make it work right. I have tried booting into this partition with a Boot 132 disk, and chameleon. I have tried safe mode, and -f flags, but nothing has caused it to work. I thought safe mode might work, but it did the same thing. This time it freezes at the login screen. None of these things causes a kernel panic. I'm at a loss as to what could be wrong. As I stated the only thing I can see causing a problem was me logging into Vista. I have no idea why this would cause a problem, as I'm not manipulating the physical hard drive that OS X is on. Vista has its own hard drive. This issue did not start after updating OS X in any way. I always reboot multiple times after a change just to verify it worked. So after that 10.5.8 update I restarted 2 times and it came back to life both times with no problems. Anyway, I'm sorry for the long message, but I wanted to be THOROUGH. You guys are the very best, and I appreciate any help you guys can provide!! Thanks in advance for your help!!
