pcmantinker
I am trying to install Snow Leopard to my HP Pavilion dv5-1015nr laptop with the boot132 method. I can boot the retail installer but I am unable to format any volumes in disk utility. I get an error similar to "Disk Utility has lost connection with the volume. Please exit Disk Utility and try again". My laptop's motherboard uses an Intel ICH9M chipset and it is AHCI compatible. I also made sure that my boot132 disk has support for my chipset. I am using a GUID partition map on my hard drive. I have installed OSx86 distros before using an MBR partition map, but I wanted to use the GUID partition map for maximum compatibility with a retail OSX vanilla install. I am unsure of the exact cause behind the error, but it may be the fact that I can't specify AHCI/IDE mode in my bios. HP limits its bios settings to end users unfortunately. If there is a custom bios or a patch that unlocks the AHCI mode setting, I would be willing to test the new bios. If there is a special boot132 disk that I can use, or if I can build a custom one, I am leaning more towards that method. It is very risky if the bios becomes unusable and the laptop is my school computer so I can't chance bricking it. EDIT: After repartitioning my hard drive with a hackintosh disk, I was able to get the retail installer to format and install to my Mac partition. I have nearly full hardware support and only need to make a few fine tunings. I will make a guide later for those who have the same or similar model laptop as me. SkribbleX
I am trying to install Snow Leopard to my HP Pavilion dv5-1015nr laptop with the boot123 method. Hello I know this is kind of an old post but I just bought the exact same laptop and want to dual boot Snow Leopard and Win7. Problem is every guide I've found talks about that same AHCI option HP has disabled on the BIOS and you seem to have gone around that. Seeing as you were planning on making a guide I wonder if you still have some links around, for the boot123 disk you got for example or that hackintosh disk you used to repartition, which apparently solved the issue. I could really use some help. pcmantinker
Hi, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I saw your pm and was reminded of writing my guide. I've been incredibly busy with school and my job. I hope to have the guide done very soon. To get you started, you might try getting this boot132 disk: http://macyourpc.com/2009/09/13/mac-os-x-1...oot-132-method/ Hello I know this is kind of an old post but I just bought the exact same laptop and want to dual boot Snow Leopard and Win7. SkribbleX
Just managed to install iDeneb and got almost eveything working, except when I installed voodooHDA sound volume actually decreased a bit, I can't click using the mouse pad (have to use the bottons) even though cursor does work fine, wireless indicator flashes continuously when activated and havent gotten BluRay to work, OK maybe not almost everything working but the essential parts are working haha . Thank you mate. Well, I'm glad to hear you got OS X working. With iDeneb, are you using 10.5.6? I've not been able to get the sound control working properly in 10.6. It just stays at a certain level. For the mouse pad, you might try VoodooPS2 to get the mouse pad clicking working. The wireless indicator flashes, but it doesn't affect its functionality. Also, there isn't any current BluRay support for Mac OS X. You can read the disks fine, but there aren't any players yet. Apple doesn't want to deal with licensing issues on BluRay software. Sorry I couldn't be of more help with Snow Leopard retail install. Someday I'll get my guide up here and I'll make sure to contact you when I do.
