jynxergeek
Ok guys, I'm a noob at all things mac, and I'm trying to install retail SL on my new system. specs as follows: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R Intel q9550 core 2 quad 4 gigs g.skill Pi Black ddr2 800 evga nvidia 9500gt 1gig PCI-express 16 2.0 hitachi 1tb sata (in port 0) samsung DVD-RAM sata (in port 1) When I boot up into grub-dfe, it loads just fine. It loads up, I pop the retail SL dvd in the drive, and tell dfe to boot the dvd. It sees the dvd, and then the screen blanks, and my system just sits. no HD activity, no DVD-ROM activity, nothing. total stop. My BIOS settings are right according to the info I've found about the GA-EP45-UD3R, I have firewire disabled, and the sata controller is set to AHCI, and I am not using the gigabyte controller, I am using the intel (6 port) controller. What am I missing? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/192838-help-a-noob/ Share on other sites

What am I missing? I have the same board and video card. I built a system from scratch on Friday. Are you able to partition a mac drive in Disc Utility? If so, all you need is an 8GB usb thumb drive, Retail SL copy and Life Hacker's file called EP45UD3P Snow Leopard v2. That is it. Go check out his guide for EP45-UD3P. Everything works. The video card and CPU are identified correctly in System Profiler and the sound and ethernet, etc all work. Good Luck.
