ratvn
Hi there, I don't have the exact Sony model that you have, but with the one having Intel core 2 duo, you should be able to get Leopard or Snow Leopard running. May have problem with some graphic, sound, wifi...kexts, but it should run fairly well. I was able, after a week of struggling, to get it going. I used ideneb 1.6 (10.5.8) lite, and universal 3.6 10.6.2 (I think I recall the version and the name correctly). Missed the graphic kext for Intel 4500HD, although I got the resolution correctly displayed. Have to use a cheap $10 USB Airlink wifi (work extremely well) in place of the onboard wifi module. Also I was able to get Snow Leopard 10.6 on another Sony with I7 quad core (seem to run well and very fast but I have not tested enough to tell). I started the installation DVD with these switches and flags, -x -v -f busratio=20 cpus=1. After a couple boot into system and repair permission ect..., it seemed to be fine without those switches and flags. Hope that these assist you some. I am a newbie too. Just been playing with it for a few week. Good luck, Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/192486-sony-fw31zj-snow-leopard-instalation-problem-please-help/#findComment-1438348 Share on other sites

I always get some Kernel Panic like a said before with a black screen....Sorry for this but I am a too noob to Mac. So please could you explain me step by step how did you install iDeneb or Snow Leopard...with the customize option when you installed ...I know that here it`s the problem (in case of iDeneb 1.6) In case of SL I`m stuck in the same picture as the first post Thanks for everything...I`m all ears Bye Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/192486-sony-fw31zj-snow-leopard-instalation-problem-please-help/#findComment-1439241 Share on other sites

There are many tutorials in this section that you could take a look. As for installation of Leopard, I don't have the exact model you got so the choice of customize options may be somewhat different due to hardware profiles. For SL installation of the first poster, I am not quite sure if vanilla method was employed as the SL image needed to be modified to some extent to suite the hardware as in many cases (we don't have a mac computer here, the more deviation from mac hardware the more modification needed), and to do that you will need a working Leopard first. I went out and bought my sony just because it got the intel core 2 duo so I can play with OSX, still not happy because there are no graphic driver for it. So for installation, I can give you some insight and hope that you could straight it out. I think you got to the installation screen and know all about hard disk partition and format (MBR, GUID, HFS+). The most important items to pay attention to are your motherboard chipset, disk driver and graphic, but you can leave out graphic driver and install it after you boot to OSX (you always could install it later when knowing the correct kext to choose rather than have a kernel panic due to wrong graphic kext). I think OSX will subtitude it with a VESA kext, a generic graphic driver and you may not have correct resolution and/or screen stretch out but it is better than nothing. At installation screen, before using disk utility to erase/format your partition ( I would erase the partition just to make sure it is clean with no file/folder left over from previous attempt), you need to check your system hardware profiler. Write down all the information about your hardware with ID so when you stuck, help are more available because your question will be more specific rather than just a simple kernel panic ( so many things could cause that KP). So when you know what hardware you have then you can choose the customize options more correctly. To give you some example from my system. 1002:4385 ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 SMBus Controller 1002:438d ATI Technologies Inc SB600 PCI to LPC Bridge 1002:4380 ATI Technologies Inc SB600 Non-Raid-5 SATA So the ATI SB600 is my chipset driver and also disk controller. Right after installation done and before reboot, go back to disk utility and repair disk permission. Reboot with -x -v -f and/or busratio=20 cpus=1 to see if you are in OSX. Hope these assist you somewhat as I am a newbie too.
