Hello I'm going to sell my PC now in a couple of days for getting a laptop instead and I have currently 2 options and those are:

1. Toshiba Satellite M70-144 - Pentium M 740 1.73 GHz - 15.4" TFT, ATI RADEON X700 - 128 MB (kovergs patch for qe/ci) and the best of all it got the Intel 915PM Express chipset and it only costs around 900 US $

2. MacBook Pro 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, 15.4" TFT, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 128 MB which costs around 1800 US $ and that's quite expensive for me as a student but at least it's 100% sure to always run OSX

At first I thought of getting just a MacBook but since it got the GMA950 I won't get it and paying around 800 US $ extra for just a X1600 which is totaly insane and I even thought of an iMac but those are to clumpsy since I want a laptop which I can take with me always. And since Maxxuss is no more my hope of running 10.5 is fading away :D but atleast I can still run 10.4.6 on Toshiba Satellite M70-144 which I can use Final Cut Pro 5.1 on and a very good laptop for a good price but still I want to be sure to run the latests OSX versions but not for that price! Which laptop should I go for and why?

if you are serious about running Mac OS X (as a day to day operating system), getting a legitimate Mac is the way to go. Did you decide against a MacBook because you're a gamer? or is it because you believe that without a graphics card, the performance is gonna suffer?

It's because I like to play games like World of WarCraft, Half-Life 2, Battlefield 2 etc so the MacBook 13" is not the machine for me and if I go for MacBook Pro I probably have to wait untill September for getting one :D

Wait till september and get a macbook pro with core2duo. You will be happier with it. All special features of the MBP make this a perfect notebook. The price is truely insane. Maybe there will e some price reduced versions of discontinued products when apple switches to core2duo (as there are now at my local shop (old small variant vor 1599€)

As a student you can benefit from the educational sales discount of 3%

the prices aren't exactly insane. You got Mac mini's that costs $600, you got MacBook's that costs $1100, iMac's that costs ~1500-2000 and MacBook Pro's cost at most a few hundred bucks more than Dell for the same spec'd machine.

MacBook Pro's cost that much because they're supposed to be high end pro machines. The Toshiba you want to get doesn't even have Core Duo processors, and that's one of the main reasons why it costs so little comparing to MBP. I do think Apple should offer a MacBook with perhaps a lower-end graphics card and price it at ~$1500. I guess they didn't do that because they don't want to kill the MacBook Pro sales considering the similarity in performance between the MacBook Pro's and MacBook's other than the graphics.
