lymantok
I am using the 5/20/2009 FB MOBO BIOS. I ordered this from Newegg last week. This appears to be the latest BIOS for the MOBO per the Gigabyte web site. Upon boot, I get a message: ATA AHCI iSrc 1.07 08042006 Intel 200-2006. Only HDD and CDROM boot drives supported. I have no way to select the USB HDD as a bootable device so I can't start the SL install. The AHCI driver installs and the boot process hangs there because the HDD and CDROM are not yet bootable (what a surprise). The RAID controller version is Gigabyte 1.06.78. The BIOS screen shots from lifehacker show the award BIOS 2004-2008. Mine is 2004-2009. Is everyone using the older FA 5/9/2009 BIOS? If not is anyone seeing this error? Any advice on how to fix/get around it? Many thx! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/192152-hackintosh-ahci-wont-all-usb-drive-boot/ Share on other sites
narzola
I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 and in order to boot from a USB drive, under "Integrated Peripherals", I have to enable "Legacy USB storage detect". Once I set that, I reboot and then press F12 as the system is booting to get to a menu that lets me choose the boot drive. From this menu, you have to choose "Hard Disk" and under there you should see your USB drive. Hope this helps. lymantok
Hi, many thx for the reply. I am using the GA-EP45-UD3P. Under IPs I don't have legacy USB unfortunately. I was able to get the boot menu and tried both HDD boot which allowed me to pick the corsair drive, as well as the USB HDD boot. Unfortunately, the boot process now hangs at verifying dmi pool. I downgraded the BIOS to the FA version, and now I can set the USD HDD as a boot device exactly matching the lifehacker BIOS screens. If I then pull out the sata connectors for the HDD and CDROM, then the verify dmi pool actual completes with update success and then just hangs. So it seems I simply can't boot off the usb...and even if I could I would'nt be able to install to the HDD as connecting it results in a boot hang at verifying dmi pool. Thx anyway. I'm stumped. [EDIT Update 10/21] I had an associate recreate the flash drive using an Intel based mac rather than an older non-Intel mac. Using the newer Intel mac it seems the boot file is written "correctly" to the usb flash drive and I was able to boot off it using the FA bios. I had no success booting off the FB bios. Anyway, hope this helps someone else.
