USB Ports lose power during boot on XPS m1330

Hello All,

I am trying to install SL on my XPSm1330. To do this I am boot from a chameleon CD and then selecting the SL install dvd that I loaded on a flash drive. My problem is that part way though the install the usb ports shuts off (I can tell because the light on the flash drive goes off) and then the booting from the flash drive fails. I have tried to repair/reformat the partition on the flash drive but even when I boot from a SL installation DVD I have the same problem so I am not able to access the flash drive from Disc Utility. The interesting part is that this is only a recent problem so I don't know what I could have done to cause this. I did not have problems with this before and the flash drive still works in the same port if I boot into Windows. Not sure what to do so any suggestions would be very welcome.
