I have searched this thread not not seen anything on the Dell XPS 420. I have a fully working 10.5.8 on this system and would like to run Snow Leopard but everytime i try to boot up i get Kernel Panic as soon as the system boots.

I have tried with boot132 for SL

I have tried the approach of copying the SL Install DVD to hard drive and then patch the files, but this still kernel pancis during boot.

My system is:

Dell XPS 420

Core2Quad Q6000 2.4

Memory 4GB

ATI 2600 XT

Hi Riogrande,

I own a Dell XPS 420, and i just recently upgraded it to a quad core Q9550 2.83ghz with 8 gigs of ram and a 9800GT 1GB Nvidia.

Can you tell me what version of OS X you used for your installation (just 10.5? or is there a 10.5.8?) and if you had to do anything special? I would like to be able to run OS X on my Dell.

Thanks!

Hey sorry for the late reply, but I used iAtkos v7. It was pretty much a vanilla install. This will get you to 10.5.7. I then did an upgrade to 10.5.8.

The update process i followed was download the combo update manually, run the update, backup all my kext and then reboot.

Though must say my mac mini running 10.6.1 boots faster then the hackintosh, but then again Snow is much faster then Leo.

Wow, that's great! I have a Dell XPS 420 as well and I tried a vanilla install but I got the (/) error symbol when it rebooted? Could you please detail any changes you made in the Customize configuration list before installing?

I tried boot 132 and had the same issue. Panics using plain vanilla. It would be awesome to figure out what needs to be done.

Thanks for the help,
