junglejake
Been trying for days to boot os 86x, infact installed it on a friends computer, restart the computer, insert cd, the computer detects cd and then after just letting it sit and count down, it loads mac os however unplugging the hd and sticking it into my comp, it detects and boots the cd, (then it says "press any key to install mac os x, or press f8 to enter start up options") well when I let it count down on my computer when it reaches zero it comes up with a diff screen. the screen is asking me to select the startup volume... hd(31,1) mac os x install disc x86 press enter to start up darwin/x86 with no options or u can type -v and press enter to start up with diagnostics..................ect ......of course if i hit enter it starts the whole installation again, if I mod the boot ini file that doesnt work either i get someother error? (oh and my buddy didnt do anything with boot.ini either) thanks for any help i appreciate it oh and as of now the mac os is installed on a partitioned hd with windows on seperate partition, should i try reformating and only running 86x? gwprod12
You can try the chain0 trick for windows... it works on every install I've ever done. get chain0 (I dont know where, but you can search for it) put chain0 in the root directory of your windows install (c:\ is root) uh... I'm not sure if I can give you an explanation at this point without destroying your computer... just search for chain0 in the forum. gwprod12
you should put it in verbose mode, so you can see what it's getting stuck on. gwprod12
if it doesnt count down to boot, just boots automatically... hit the control key (I think) to get the prompt, then after Boot: put -v Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19133-booting-osx-after-install-not-detecting-on-hd/#findComment-125369 Share on other sites
junglejake
ok comp starts up, (i am not using boot.ini) so I have the install cd in, comp boots off install cd and the count down begins so while it counts down I hit "ctrl" and then the screen just goes black (if i let it count down, the grey mac screen just loads forever) now,... on macvidia it did say this,..... "if you get black screen, simple restart and add boot option "Graphics Mode"=1024x768x32@60." is this my prob? if so how do i add this boot option? thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19133-booting-osx-after-install-not-detecting-on-hd/#findComment-125373 Share on other sites
gwprod12
Pretty sure that's not your problem at all.. the macvidia thing. if when it says "press any key to..." what does it say? Install or Boot? I'm confused... probably almost as much as you. junglejake
Pretty sure that's not your problem at all.. the macvidia thing. if when it says "press any key to..." what does it say? Install or Boot? I'm confused... probably almost as much as you. sorry for the confusion, ill explain a little better I start compter w/ x86 installation cd in drive it says after a few seconds "boot from cd" - so i let it boot the cd then a screen displays the following Darwin/X86 boot v5.0.132 1022 mb memory vesa v3.0 128mb (nvidia) Press any key to install mac os x, or press F8 to enter start up options (8) <<<<(8) being start of countdown so since x86 is installed, I let it countdown because i do not want to reinstall, before installing the macvidia drivers it would countdown, then the grey mac screen appears, loads for a few seconds and volia i am runnin x86 now however, it counts down, grey screen appears and then it just loads forever but,..if i were to hit 'cntrl' during the countdown the screen goes black Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19133-booting-osx-after-install-not-detecting-on-hd/#findComment-125384 Share on other sites
gwprod12
try hitting f8 then put in rd=disk0s1 (that's a guess, it's hard to tell what your disk and slice will be without futzing around with it) and -v, so... Boot: rd=disk0s1 -v (dont type the boot, that's what's already there) hit Enter. See what happens! junglejake
very nice it started this time,....x86 did reboot and an error message displays the following system extension cannot be used. the sysyem extension "/system/library/Extensions/NVDriver.kext" was installed improperly and connot be used..... and a another except with NVidia.kext so yea those are the 2 files from macvidia i dropped in the extensions folder (and also i took out the iondrvsupport.kext) i must have installed them wrong huh? i may be mistaken however i thought it said just to drop them in the extensions folder,...am i missing something? NOTE:: macvidia site did say something about removing old files first,...should this be done? if so which files Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19133-booting-osx-after-install-not-detecting-on-hd/#findComment-125398 Share on other sites
gwprod12
I'm not a macvidia expert cause ATI cards are 97% supported (the 1600 at least) to boot into single user mode, do "rd=disk0s1 -s" instead of "rd=disk0s1 -v" you can them make modifications to the file system. DiaboliK
ok here to help: First - inorder to have mac osx start up on any hd no matter how many partitions with other os's, make it the active partition <-- this will give you the darwin bootloader (makes life easier) you may have to use windows to make it active. (start button>Run>diskmgmt.msc) Second - you didnt install the macvidia drivers right thats what the errors were. to fix it go to terminal and enter-> sudo -s (press enter) you password (press enter) chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/NV*.kext (Press Enter) chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/NV*.kext (Press Enter) Now goto Finder>(your sysytem HD)>System/Library/ and erase the following: Extensions.mkext and Extensions.kextcache Now go and reboot your machine and your macvidia drivers should work. If not when your in darwin at this part -->Press any key to start mac os x, or press F8 to enter start up options (8) press 8 and then enter this --> "Graphics Mode"="1024x768x32@60" (including the "s) then press enter and you should be up and going.
