Firewire Audio interface problem:

Sound passes through but nothing in the interface software panel -- shows no interface nor any controls (levels/panpots)

Running OSX iDeneb10.5.8.

BTW, Original OS (G5/MacPro) has no problem locating and identifying interface just that iDeneb can't find it only)

Someone help please!

PS. Changing to another firewire PCI card doesn't solve it.

Firewire in a hackintosh has big issues....

See my thread I have big issues with firewire too....

I've got a problem as well.

iDeneb running 10.5.8 with an Apogee Ensemble audio interface. Audio passes in/out of the interface without much problem -- Logic 9 will run and you can record guitar from the Hi-Z input on the front of the Ensemble but there a few problems:

1. Ensemble does not show up in Maestro, the control software for Apogee Ensemble. Ensemble shows up in Logic's audio setup but NOT in Maestro (Apogee's control panel software which only shows empty windows without any control icons such as faders and buttons.

2. Ensemble emits a slight noise floor when it's on (this isn't the monitor/speaker problem since they're dead silent with other interfaces from the Mac Pro so it's definitely a "iDeneb/Apogee" problem.

3. Definitely an iDeneb problem since hooking up the same interface to a MacPro does not have these problems.

4. It's not the FW card since we've tried both the built-in FW port on the Gigabyte P45 motherboard as well as a FW PCI card -- same results.

So.... not being able to see it in Maestro makes us think it might be a FW issue since Maestro may not be able to 'see' it due to perhaps driver problems in the OS or some sort of FW setup needing to be done....?

Is there someway to tweak the FW settings in the OS?

Hi Masterlen, I noticed that you're using 10.6.1/i7. So it is safe to say that all versions of iDeneb have FW issues....?

It's not only an IDeneb issue...I think it's a common hackintosh issue!

.....because I am not using IDeneb I have a vanilla install.

I hope we can find a fix for this.....

I'll chime in here too since it seems you guys are discussiong the very reason I wanted to go to OS X. audio recording via a firewire interface.

I use a Presonus firebox successfully with ideneb 1.6 (OS X Leopard 10.5.8) I have the same operating system control and config as I do with it in XP and vista, meaning in the os's audio config I can choose it as the primary device and do some basic level adjusting. I also have full control of it in OS X Via the Presonus software mixer for it as I do on XP / Vista.

It detects and has function as a "sound card" for OS X without installing the software from Presonus, but just as it operates in windows, If I want to route anything internally or adjust levels on anything more than 1&2 in and 1&2 out I have to use the control panel software from presonus.

I use it in Logic 9, garageband 09 and Presonus's new DAW, Presonus One and it operates and all of it's controls work just like they did in XP.

It's connected to my computer via firewire to a Agere (cheapo) firewire PCI card with 3 ports. It's got a Seagate Freeagent Xtremem 1TB external firewire drive daisy chained thru it.

i hope this thread helps out people like us that want to use the firewire and acompanying hardware for sound, recording, and video etc and any info I can provide about my setup I'll be happy to share.

I don't know if you got this resolved, but I have a Focusrite Saffire LE working on my Asus PK5C onboard firewire with retail install (with various added kexts and EFI strings for the particulars) of OS 10.5.8. The LE was always recognized by the system, but didn't work until I installed "AppleFWAudio-2.1.0fc9-e2" and subsequently replaced the AppleFWAudio.kext with version 1.2.2.

My attempt to get it working in a Snow Leopard installation was fruitless.
