user555
okay so i discovered how to install snow on g31m-es2l gigabyte motherboard rev 2.x and well it works pretty well (waiting on ethernet card and well display displays 1024x768 and no sound...) so my question is how do i get the sound to work? please dont give me links to other sites because ive already tried infinites guides and tried the several kext files and also tried modifying the dsdt file with the alc883 and what not... the system profile displays the alc883 but as far as sound goes its still a no go, does not display in sound preferences as input or outputs... so if someone could direct me how to get it to work step by step written out i would be more than happy, ive gotten the previous versions of mac to work on this motherboard and ive very well pleased with its performance if only i could get the sound to work then everything would be more then okay . p.s. if its not too troublesome i wouldnt mind some knowledge on how to change the resolution! (using nvidia geforce card), i am more concerned about the sound at this point because i really cannot proceed in anything if i dont have sound working... so please help!!! (using nvidia geforce card), i am more concerned about the sound at this point because i really cannot proceed in anything if i dont have sound working... so please help!!! I have this mobo but Rev 1.1 and I manage to get the audio to work by apply the VoodooHDA.kext ( use the search feature at the top of this page you will fid it) be sure to use the new Kext Utility 2.3 to install it ( not the old one )but you may want to do this after you have your OS update to 10.6.1, otherwise it will ruin the sound when you update your OS. be aware that this kext will not give you all the audio feature like 5.1 surround sound but you will get 2 channel stereo sound nicely. As far as Nvidia graphic card you can try EFIStudio, that will give you a bunch of Nvidia and ATI graphic card of your choice then apply the result to com.apple.Boot.plist file, after restart you should have more resolution to chose from. Did you go to System Preference/Network and see if it detect your network card in there, if it set to DHCP and it doesn't work you may want to try it static IP and give it IP to whatever your router is, example 192.168.1.3 and the subnet Mask; 255.255.255.0 and you gateway which is your router IP xxx.xxx.x.x. and see if it does anything. Huh, it is different chip than the ver1.1 I have, which is working right out of Box with Snow Leo 32 and 64 bit. I would suggest you to get this Trendnet on like this one : http://www.trendnet.com/products/proddetai...ITXR&cat=14 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/190762-g31m-es2l-snow-sound/#findComment-1298746 Share on other sites

OK so if you go to Syst. preference then select Network you will see on the left pane you have more than one network card, make sure you select the right one and it should have green radio button next to it. if you got that and you still can't connect to the internet, try to reboot your modem and router and see if you can connect now. Good job, download this one from my link then install it by drag its icon to your Application folder, now you either launch it or you can drag this kext utility icon to you dock then drag the VoodooHDA.kext to the kext utility icon in your dock to install it. restart now you should have sound. here the link to kext Utility http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=140647 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/190762-g31m-es2l-snow-sound/#findComment-1298929 Share on other sites

Hmmm, I am afraid you haven't done it correctly. After you put the Kext Utility in your Application folder then drag its Icon to the Dock but you don't have to launch it, Now all you have to do is drag the VoodooHDA.kext into the Kext Utility Icon in the the Dock and wait for it to do its thing when it finish restart your Snow Leopard and it s done. V2 of that board is a little more tricky. Try the guide here http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/guide-retai...for-g31m-t3672/ Skip down to "DSDT, Audio and remaining fixes" that should help. also post 171 http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/guide-retai...672/page18.html Quote: here's how the setup goes, any of the 3 combination will do: - LegacyAppleHDAHardwareConfigDriver + LegacyHDAPlatformDriver + HDEF = audio - LegacyALC883.kext + HDEF = audio - VoodooHDA (S/L/E) + untouch dsdt = audio Poke around in that thread, you should find your fix. I am running the same board... attached are the legacy kexts files you need along with the DSDT.aml file. Put the LegacyAppleHDAHardwareConfigDriver.kext, LegacyHDAController.kext, and LegacyHDAPlatformDriver.kext in /Extra/Extensions Put the DSDT.aml file in /Extra. Reboot. You should have sound.
