Hey, I have a few questions that I need some help with!

I have a ASUS laptop, specs are...

N81Vp-D1

ACPI x64 based PC/Intel® ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller

Intel Core Duo 2 T9600

ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650 1GB VRAM

4GB DDR2 memory

320GB HDD

Which version would you recommend to install.... iATKOS 10.5.7 or OSX Kalyway?

Will installing iATKOS 10.5.7 on an portable external USB HDD 5400RPM Seagate work?? (I just need to have the right bios settings to boot from the external)

If not, I can create a partition on my laptop HDD which I believe would work better.

Any links to help me out on which options to check or install? or any information to help me out!

Thanks!

I manage to get a USB portable HDD and I installed iATKOS v7 10.5.7 on it.

I did have a problem in the beginning and had to hit F8, then type cpus=1 -v (since -v was not working...)

After that I erased my USB HDD and formatted it to Mac OS Extended Journaled.

Mac OS Leopard installed and I left the customize default with Chameleon 2 for bootloader.

Computer restarted I cannot get the USB HDD to boot Mac OS Leopard, any ideas?

I went into my boot settings and only settings was USB devices (Other then CDROM,HARD DRIVE, DISABLE, NETWORK)

I change the settings and still no luck

I CANNOT get the USB HDD to boot Mac OS Leopard.

Any ideas what to do? or did I screw up on some settings or format?

Thanks

You need ether to boot via the install DVD inserted, or install a boot loader to the INTERNAL HDD. Install it to internal HDD, cos' your PC can't boot (looks like, pleas correct me if I'm wrong) from an USB, and boots from an internal HDD/DVD. Therefore a special, let's call it application, needed to boot an OS located on an USB HDD.

Depending on what other OSes you have (if any), there are different methods and boot loaders.

Like: EasyBootCD, Grub, Acronis Bootloader etc.

It is called dual (two OSes)/triple booting (three OSes). There are many guides on how to do it.

I never tried to boot an OS from USB External.

I think I use to use acronis bootloader, I'll give it a try.

Any bootloader u recommend?

Also, should I be aware of any settings or options when I dual boot from a USB external OS?

Any bootloader u recommend?
No actually. It's a matter of taste. :P I'm actually using Grub. The choose was natural - I have a Linux installed. Linux uses Grub as a default boot loader.

Nothing special... Install the bootloader of choose to an internal disk (or other disk set as a boot device). Configure boot loader's menu. Boot.

The only problem may be configuring the boot loader menu.

  • 3 weeks later...

I finally installed (external HDD still not working?) and well it loads but as soon as the screen comes up, it starts to slowly flash different colors of background red, blue, white, and so on... Nothing happens, I have to restart laptop and same thing. This is installed on the Internal HDD as for some reason I cannot boot from the External HDD and I did change the boot settings???

As for the screen color changing, is this caused from my video card???

Thx
