Okay, in my quest to get a working hackintosh on my GA-EX58-UD5 so far the only way I've been able to get sound to work has been by running EP45UD3P Snow Leopard.pkg (found on lifehacker http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2009/09/insta.../#comment-14098

But when I do that it sets my video back to default {censored} mode, killing the drivers for my geforce 8800gtx that I installed using the OSX86Tools_1.0.150

Even worse I can't seem to install the graphics drivers again after wards. (I've had to reformat and re install the os to reset everything to a clean starting state.)

Does anyone know how I can strip out everything from that pkg file except for the audio stuff?

Looks like no (the simple answer). The package contains no kexts. So there are nothing to extract, actually. The package only installs a Chameleon boot loader - no audio drivers, nor VGA drivers. The Chameleon has a build-in function to insert EFI strings to com.apple.Boot.plist, so anabling some devices support e.g. VGA, Sound, Network. As it is written in Chameleon's READ ME
Device Property Injection via device-properties string in com.apple.Boot.plist

So, all it did to make your sound work, was inserting the necessary EFI strings. The strings you have had before that e.g. VGA string, were replaced by the new Chameleon strings. Therefor the VGA no longer worked.

So, to make the sound work, try using other methods. E.g. VoodooHDA or http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...php/t89556.html
