ulibumpa
Hi all In my very first attempt to do anything outside my regular vista existence I decided I wanted to dual boot with Kalyway 10.5.2 on my Toshiba Satellite M200 laptop. I managed to partition (or so I thought) my 120 GB drive with 20GB for the mac side. After I booted up with the DVD it showed my allocated partition only had about 250 MB and obviously not enough to install the OS. First I looked at the possibility to resize the partitions in disc utility (in mac) but that would reformat the whole drive incl my windows partition so I didn't go there. The problem is that this small partition is the primary so I can't get back into windows to resize either. What can I do??? I'm in limbo now. Needles to say I'm a total noob and not very competent in fiddling with settings so please be gentle. Any help is appreciated Hm and I thought I could become a real hacker Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/189670-help-needed-to-resize-partitions-to-fit-kalywayfor-vista-dual-boot/ Share on other sites
srs5694
First, try booting with your Windows install disc and select the system repair options. With any luck, they'll make Windows bootable again. If that doesn't work, you could try downloading System Rescue CD or Parted Magic. These are Linux-based emergency systems that include partition resizing tools (the text-mode Parted and the GUI GParted). You should be able to use these to resize your Windows partition to the size you expect, then try your OS X install. You should also be able to use these tools to set the bootable flag on your Windows partition, which could be what's causing the boot problems. (There could be other issues, though, and for that you'll need the Windows install disc or other more Windows-centric tools.) Thanks Rod Turns out the partitioning was ok but the mac partition shrunk for some reason in the setting up/booting process to mac. Maybe I erased it in disk utility somehow It clearly stated my windows partition had 80gb as intended but the mac part suddenly had only 250mb. I tried a few different things but ended up rebooting with XP. Lost apps and settings and a few bits and pieces (all files were backed up though) but got a clean start. Working on setting things up again and then back to Kalyway Since I'm not sure what really whent wrong I don't know how to avoid the same scenario though...
