To all you brilliant minds that contribute to these forums - Thank you! I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate your generosity to offer your knowledge and experience freely for the sake of others' success.

Now I've got a challenge. I'm a long time Mac user, and consider myself fairly tech-savvy, but when I come into these forums, much of this seems to be over my head (for now).

I am currently tasked with setting up a hackintosh, either in Snow Leopard or Leopard - basically the latest and most up to date system that can function fully on the following hardware:

Motherboard: Asus P5E-VM HDMI

RAM: 2GB RAM

CPU: 1 Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.53Ghz

Graphics: PNY GeForce 9600GT 512MB

Ethernet: Linksys LNE100TX Version 4.1

I've tried Kalyway 10.5.2, which runs fine without support for the graphics card, ethernet, or audio, but of course those are all pretty important (the ethernet being priority, followed by graphics card, then audio).

If you were in my position, willing to do some work but not really familiar with EFI strings and kext installation, what is the latest version of OS X you would go for? Can I get Snow Leopard working without melting my brain trying to get ethernet, graphics, and sound working? If not, is there a Kalyway type of solution that would work on my setup?

Thank you again for your help and all your contributions to this forum! I appreciate it!

if you google "site:insanelymac.com p5e-vm hdmi" you will find a good thread from 2007 on this board, plus the kexts you will need to make it work. Mine is up to 10.5.6, but 10.5.8 shouldn't be a problem. I'm unlikely to try SL on it though someone might as there were quite a few people using this board at one time.

I've located that thread, although the process of applying those kexts etc. is a bit confusing to me. Once I have all of that, what do I do with it?

Thanks!
