Zaap
Personally, I'd stick with the Gigabyte G41 board, though both will work. The Gigabyte has in it's favor: It's Gigabyte. For my money, they've long surpassed Asus for quality control. (And I say this as one who used to use nothing but Asus stuff, but since found their quality slipping.) The G41 chipset is more energy-efficient than the G31. It's also a newer board. The G41 board has the potential of 8GB of RAM (granted, with only 2 slots). There's more support for OSx86 on the Gigabyte board- more guides for setting it up and more support from users of the same hardware should you need it. Snow Leopard runs like a champ on the Gigabyte board- not sure about the Asus. The Asus is a little cheaper, but I can't really find any other benefit. For giggles, look up both boards on newegg and read the user comments. The Asus has an astounding 43% one-egg ratings. Even out of a sample size of only 14 people, half the users had problems. I'd stay well clear of anything with that bad a showing. The Gigabyte has 66% five-egg ratings. Personally, I've always found newegg reviews to be a pretty good indicator of an item's quality and likelihood of having problems with it.
