I just installed 10.6 using a retail disc and restoring it to a flash drive. Installation worked flawlessly and it boots up the desktop fine. Problem is sound and ethernet doesnt work (although it reads it in the system profiler). I've installed the kexts for the integrated audio (ALC888) and it didnt work (repaired permissions as well) and cant find the proper ethernet driver (RTL 8110SC).

Please help.

Thanks very much

there is no known driver available for the built in network yet. Buy a cheap Realtek NIC and plug into the PCI slot. Then boot up your system in 64 bit by typing "arch=i386_64" and the system will recognise your network and sound will work too.
