AndersenTech
Hey all i'm new here and I have some understanding of kexts and things like that but I just can't get past the problem of after updating to 10.5.8 (both iDeneb and Netkas method) I loose all the icons and detection of my SATA drives! I have also lost Quartz GL. I totally messed up the system by trying to replace the backup kexts from 10.5.7 when the system was running and had to get the install disk and redo the extensions folder and mach kernel! Please help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/188975-dell-530-os-x-1058-update/ Share on other sites

Please help So you got a Dell laptop. The 530, which if i understand it correctly is quite similar to my Dell 6400 (drivers etc..) iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal PPF5 Final It might not be 10.5.8 but it works PERFECTLY and if you install OSX86TOOLS in the installation you can also turn on Quartz Good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/188975-dell-530-os-x-1058-update/#findComment-1281596 Share on other sites
AndersenTech
Sorry about the details, I meant I have a Dell Inspiron 530 (desktop tower). I have the iPC OS X 10.5.6 installed (upgraded to 10.5.7 w/vanilla kernel) and can update to 10.5.8 but seem to missing Quartz and support for the SATA drives (have OS X installed to a USB external) and I think it is just the kernel. What I ended up doing was replacing all the 10.5.8 kexts with the 10.5.7 kexts and that did nothing but after I replaced the kernel it just worked again! But after some issues with Vuze and the "can not write symbols to kernel" message i'm back to square 1. AndersenTech
Hey all, solved my own problem!!! I ended up installing the Retail Leopard (10.5.6) and thought that would get rid of the problem. Turns out the the kexts that I had installed were the problem. And for those out there who are having a problem with Quartz and S-ATA hd's I just popped in the iPC OSX86 10.5.6 DVD and only installed the Intel GMA950 driver, and the S-ATA drivers and it was all fixed. Thisalso solved the Quartz ptoblem! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/188975-dell-530-os-x-1058-update/#findComment-1285860 Share on other sites
