For the easiest install use the UD5 install page here:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=149505

Do a generic install, using the patch installer that he provides.

This should be easy just follow the steps.

Please try chameleon boot loader not EFI strings. I could not even get EFI to load so I wouldn't bother with that option.

I had problems if I allowed the Snow Leopard DVD to install Languages and Printers (Both are optional) so if the install fails, just try again and click "customise" in the installer to uncheck those boxes.

The .kext part needs a little tinkering. Firstly go to the 10.5 kext and grab the ionetworkingfamily.kext then copy that into the 10.6 networking folder. This will allow the Network cards to start.

Also change the audio kext to the Voodo ones. Or Legacy both should work for 888 sound card.

Now once installed and booted you will need to get the video card working. To do this use OSX86 tools to put an

EFI string of your card. This is easier then it seems, just get OSXTools then click EFI strings. Then GFX card, select the card from the list OR create your card from the option at the bottom of the list then load onto the .boot.plist

Now you should have a workable version of Snow leopard.

Please post any comments or problems

Sound: Partially working with VoodoHDA, Outputs are on but no Inputs 888 Azalia

Video Card: Working with EFI sting input from OSXTOOLS Asus 9400GT

Network Card: Working, partially. Only works if plugged in from startup.

To be honest if you are annoyed you cannot get anything working. CHEAT.

Buy an Apple USB to ethernet adaptor and a USB Imic from the apple store, if you cant get it all working because sometimes paying a little money to have things that just work is easier then getting mad that they are broken. Plus they are only $40 each.

This install should also work with EX58 UD3P

Picture is of the KEXT list that should be installed. If you want a complete Picture on entire install please ask, but only if you are really stuck and have NO idea. (Specific part of the install you are stuck on required)

Give back to the OSX86 community. Post your luck or problems and how/why.

gonna try this when i get home tonight

got my snow leopard disc today.

gonna follow this guide

http://buildahackintosh.com/2009/09/13/gue...-i7-hackintosh/

which uses digital dreamers script. it's tailored for a EX58-UD4P

although he too has linked to an older script

DD does have a new script for snow leopard

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=185097

i did manage to install snow on it before using the lifehackers guide and a extras pack someone created for x58 chipset, but hoping this will give me a better install.

my specs

Gigabyte EX58-UD4P

i7 920

Ati 4870 512mb

12gb ram.

will post back in a few hours.

so i tried this all yesterday night.

i managed to install snow and boot into it on first boot with -v arch=i386

and then ran #5 to move install kexts

then reboot

after i reboot i get stuck

i get to the bootloader

stars loading kexts i get as far as DSMOS has arrived

then a few lines after that it just hangs, the last two lines been

kext com.apple.Dont_Steal_Mac_OS_X module stop pointer is outside of kext range (stop 0x7ef86053 -kext at 0x7f119000-0x7f11f000)

kext com.apple.Dont_Steal_Mac_OS_X can't load - module stop returned 0xdc008007

not sure what i've done or need to do, any chance you can post what you did exactly after installing snow...and updating the kexts in the patcher?

thanks for any help

Ok now I'm as you know its hard to fix things without seeing them however I think the problem you are having is that the Kernel is gone wrong. As you have found out creating these machines takes lots of trial and error.

I think its that one of the kexts are not installing. Can you put up a list of the kext's that your installing with that guide. If they are exactly the same as those that are in my picture. (see above) then:

First thing I would do is try out the Voodoo Kernel.  (Personally this makes my compy crash but with another computer it smooths out that perticular error)

Are you installing Snow leapord from another Hackingtosh (which is what I did) OR are you installing from the SAME system?

Remember you dont need to do a full reinstall to change around the kexts just delete them (Look up guides for this) and put more into the script. (the script can uninstall the kexts for you but Im a little sceptical about if it does it properly)

Good luck and post up your results.

Sorry about writing a reply to my own post but I just thought of something as I was closing the computer.

If you read my method above I say to use Charmeleon boot loader because the EFI string method tends to hang. Now if you use Charmeleon it should be the same method as EFI only this time it shouldnt hang (hopefully). Again good luck and you have some excelent resources to get your system to work.

I would recomend:

a) Chooseing Charmeleon

;) Having exactly the same Kexts as above (excluding of course the Audio and Gfx)

Good luck

READ THIS FIRST.

If you got the system to boot without ANY kext installed then you shouldn't be installing any of the kext that involve disabling the DONT STEAL MAC. kext

Atm I cant remember which one it is but one of those Kexts disable it. If you can boot without it then dont bother just put in the Audio and Gfx kext as well as the ones for networknig and SATA, if they arent working on first boot too.
