I've tried kalyway 10.5.2 and it just reboots after a few seconds. ipc 10.5.6 hangs on loading hfs+ file sys/library/extensions/mkext (not exact path) by the way, this is a cheapie amd dual-core laptop best buy is selling by the bushel at ~$300. is running win7 now.
