CJP2
I just posted this as a followup to the Boot Think thread in New Releases but thought others might benefit here. Link to dl and original thread. I'd been tearing my hair out for 2 weeks trying for a successful Snow install and could never get past a KP on first boot. Tried every flavor of Chameleon, PC EFI V10-10.2 (and 9), boot 132, from DVD, from restored partition, from Terminal, something about my board just didn't want to cooperate. And I've been running retail vanilla 10.5.5-8 fully from a EFI partition and plist strings up till now so I'm pretty sure I know my way around these things and my boards own peculiarities. Then I stumbled on this thread late one night and thought "why not, give'r a go". I installed it on a internal ATA hd (MBR) that had my old original Kaly 5.2 install on it, set that disk to boot from my bios and TA DA! Through the selection screen I was able to quickly find and boot the Install DVD restored onto a USB drive partition, boot into it and install Snow on a blank partition on my GUID main internal hd, restart, select the new Snow partition and I'm in the Welcome screen just as easy as on my real 07 Macbook. Easy set up just like Chameleon but everything goes into a /Darwin folder at root. DSDT, com.apple.Boot.plist, smbios.plist and your kexts and mkexts are all supported. (* they go where you installed BootThink so in my case it's on a partition of another drive than my Snow install thus leaving Snow completely unmodified.) It can be installed on a disk, partition or EFI. Best of all it can boot an OS from another hd which Chameleon can't do yet which is great for me because I've got 3 internal hd with multiple OS and different builds scattered across all of them. Good documentation with the dl and a uninstaller. Works great and updated to 2.3.18 as of yesterday. If you've been frustrated with Chameleon and Snow then give this a whirl and maybe take the pain out of 64 bit love. CJP2
Not sure about that, I'm only using XP Pro on that IDE MBR partitition and haven't played with win7 yet. It's worth a try since it's so easy to install it on a extra partition but it seems like if your install has to be IDE at the bios level then there's nothing a bootloader can do to remedy that. In my mind it would be worth reinstalling win7 just to get the functionality of booting whichever partition or hd from a GUI bootloader just like Chameleon instead of having to set the boot order or sata controller in bios. Provided of course you don't have a ton of software on the win7 install that would be a pain to put back together. Did you check the original Insanely thread for a solution? The origins of this is in China and Google translator does somewhat of a good job but I haven't signed up to their board so can't get very far into their forums.
