Reinstall iPC over an existing broken install

Hi,

I had iPC 10.5.6 installed and working on my computer, however I tried upgrading it (followed a guide; I can't remember where from now) and now my install is broken (gets stuck waiting for root device). I have Windows installed on the same machine and I can access the mac partition from here to alter things.

 

Anyway, I tried to reinstall iPC over the top of the previous install, however it fails every time. I even burned another copy to see if it was a faulty disc, however it still fails at the same point, around 30%.

 

I have tried repairing the permissions and the disk to no avail, so I'm assuming the problem is something already on there from the previous install.

 

Is there a way to remove certain things to allow the installer to run fine?
