panos
MSI 945GM2 Who has this card, and more importantly who has the sound working on it? The Video, perfect. Network, flawless. Sound, soundless. Is there a way (other than booting into windows first) to get this sound device working? panos
Got an update. Bought an ESS soundcard (for dirt cheap) to see if it will work it seems that OSX does not detect anything in the PCI slot. Maybe OSX is not so compatible with this mobo. Anybody have any other experiences with this mobo? Don Luca
Panos, to enable the ALC880 try this: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...hl=alc880&st=80 Download the Callysto kext. Please, then report if it worked or not, because I ordered this MB and i'll have it in 3 days... panos
Don, 860 != 880. 860 works fine except for audio in. The 880 is not even detected. That method does not work. Don Luca
The AppleHDA kext is the one patched for ALC880... I'm sure because in another Thread there's one user who used it and it worked on his ALC880. Give it a try. Try also changing the ID in the AppleHDA and put in there yours. gwprod12
If I recall corectly... I ditched AppleHDA entirely I changed Azalia so that it used my ALC880 device id. It's true that it doesnt show up in System Profiler, but it works perfectly (at least output) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/18732-msi-945gm2-alc-880/#findComment-125357 Share on other sites

gwprod12
no... lemme look First of all... the codec setting (the realtek part) should be 0x10ec0880 in AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/Info.plist Second of all... in /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleAzaliaController.kext/Contents/Info.plist under Intel ICH Azalia Audio put in 0x27d88086 under IOPrimaryPCIMatch. That should be it, aside from the mkext, kextcache etc and so forth maintenance stuff. Tell me if it works! Don Luca
I've ordered this MB a week ago... I'm going to the shop this evening and get it... As soon as I have enough time to build my new Hackintosh, I'll inform you if it works... Panos may test it right now, since he has the same motherboard as me and you... Panos, where are you? panos
I just got in and am heading out again. I might try it a little later on. Let me know how it goes for you. I think I tried this method on 10.4.4 and had no luck. I just upgraded to 10.4.5 this weekend and have not tried this method again. I will see what can be done to get this working and report if I have any luck. Don you use GarageBand and how is everything else on your new box? panos
A quick google found the problem. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303723 Hope this helps anybody with this motherboard / Sound device, or somebody trying to decide on a mobo. It seems all works fine on this mobo now except audio in. I have not tried the Firewire on it but it does display in System Profile. gwprod12
Yeah, system profiler, which I trust in this circumstance, says there is no built in audio. I havent figured out how to fix that though. Don Luca
gwprod12's method works on 10.4.5 HOWEVER GarageBand gives an Error (-2) when loading. I will see what can be done to get this working and report if I have any luck. Don you use GarageBand and how is everything else on your new box? The MB isn't arrived yet. I'm furious with the dealer... yesterday I phoned them and they replied "patience...." If it doesn't arrive in 3 days, I'll cancel my order and take it somewhere else. Panos, have you tried using a more recent or older version of GarageBand? Personally I don't use it, but I'd like to... The main problem is that iLife '06 is around 7 Gb and I don't have such a speedy connection... ...to contact the dealer BTW, I think someone should update the WIKI with the MSI 945GM2 Motherboard... gwprod12
Just out of curiousity... where do you live that you cant just go to the computer store and buy one? Where do you live that it takes more than a day to get an order? (I worked at a computer store, we ordered something monday, it was delivered on tuesday) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/18732-msi-945gm2-alc-880/#findComment-126182 Share on other sites
Don Luca
I'm in Italy, but generally it takes no more than 2 - 3 days to get ordered hardware... In fact I find extremely strange that it is taking so long... The fact is that that shop had a very good price on motherboards... and so i decided to try. panos
Hey Don out of Curiosity how much did you pay for that mobo? Also have any of you guys got Audio IN working? Don Luca
I am paying it 119 €... to get audio in working we need to work on both AppleHDA and Azalia. Azalia should work with Audio Out and Apple should take care of Audio In. Don Luca
I just got the motherboard. I mounted it yesterday night and OSX installation went without a hitch. USB and GMA950 working. I haven't tested anything else. Today evening, I'll work on the ALC880. panos
Its easy with gwprod's method. Let me know if you get any luck with figuring out audio in. I've tried playing with AppleHDA but nothing as of yet. panos
PS/2 ports are working fine, I've got mine hooked onto a kvm switch. I had a problem with PS/2 ports on my other PC, once I deleted /System/Library/Extension.mkext and Extensions.kextcache all was fine.
