robi39
Trying to install on my laptop, It fails very early on the install before the language selection comes up, with Still waiting for root device error right after AppleUSBEHCI error. I know this indicates that correct chipset driver is not loaded. I just tried so many different things that I'm not sure which kext should be loaded. Here is what i tried so far: Install from USB stick with Chameleon and Extra kext folder Install to external Usb drive from within 10.5.7 using OSInstall.mpkg file All with the same result Here is my specs: Intel PM45/ICH9M chipset, NVidia 9600M GT 512MB Graphics, 4GB memory, Broadcom Wireless Lan, Realtek Wired Lan, HP DV7-1020US Laptop, Dual boot with Win7 and OS 10.5.7 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/186802-sl-install-fails-with-still-waiting-for-root-error/ Share on other sites

How do you boot off an external drive? I can't boot off anything, I modified AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext with my device ID and put in the /Extra folder and now I get KP instead of Still waiting for root device error. el lissitzky
my problem ended up being a driver confliction, i removed the jmicron kext and then i was able to boot. i just realized that a core2duo is a 64bit processor and now i'm gonna either start over or buy a board that has a nice guide for it. Did You have to change device ID in AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext .plist? What method did you use to install Snow Leopard to USB drive? Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/186802-sl-install-fails-with-still-waiting-for-root-error/#findComment-1270519 Share on other sites

Thanks in advance i never edited the kext and i'm not sure how to. i used an external HD. i just made an image of the retail disc, and restored it to the external. then i used the chameleon newest version with the installer that installs right to the drive. and then i dropped the kexts in the extensions folder and booted it.
