I ran a OSX update on a iDeneb 1.4 installation and most of it still works, except the Internet?

Hi all,

I installed iDeneb 1.4 (which is 10.5.6 I think?) on a machine and most stuff was working perfectly. I gave the machine to someone else as they needed a Mac, however they by accident ran an OSX update and the version number is now given as 10.5.8. Funny thing is, I expected the computer not to boot at all anymore, but it still seems to be going strong.

Everything is working properly, except the network interface. The Mac can ping any PC on the network and vice versa, so on the hardware level packets are travelling. However, the Mac cannot find any network share available on the network (and vice versa) and can also not browse the Internet.

Does anyone have any idea where I can start looking to solve this problem?

Thanks, much appreciated :)

i would check for a dns issue. can you ping the internet. try something like 4.2.2.2

Thanks, it seems this brings me one step closer to the solution. Using the network utility, I can actually ping www.google.co.za and I get a response. So this means the DNS is being resolved correctly AND I can ping the Internet.

Why try something like 4.2.2.2?

Still no browsing though.

And there is another thing that is bothering me and that is the fact that the local network should be working anyway since we generally use the IP to connect to a share on another machine.
