daimason
Hello. I want to install iDeneb 10.5.5 on my HP dv5-1050ee. My sys config is: Processor: AMD TurionX2 Ultra (SSE3 supported) 2.2GHz RAM: DDR2 3GB Graphics Card: ATI RADEON 3450- 256MB When i reach the "Welcome" menu after booting from iDeneb DVD and select DISK UTILITY and select the partition (i created in windows hoping to dedicate it to MAC). It says the disk erase failed and gives the message "Illogical request". I am guess thats because you cannot format a logical partition with the DVD. I checked a tutorial titled "OSX Leopard 10.5.5 On A PC" and it states that i must click on the hard drive (not any partitions...) So if i do select my hard drive and erase, will I lose my windows and ALL content on my hard disk? I understand that i can perform an erase that is "recoverable", but will that mean i wont be able to boot to windows normally? Can some1 tell me a method to install MAC and not lose window (or any content for that matter) and be able to choose which operating system i would like to boot at start up I will really appreciate any help offered. Thanks a lot! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/186046-will-windows-get-deleted-after-installing-ideneb-v13-osx-1055/ Share on other sites
srs5694
This question probably belongs in the installation or multi-booting forum, not the Windows forum. You might get more/better responses if you move your post there. That said: I'm unfamiliar with the "illogical request" error message, but your interpretation is almost certainly wrong; the program has probably encountered some sort of error that it hasn't been explicitly programmed to deal with and so is putting up a generic error message. I suggest you either create a primary MBR partition for OS X of type 0xAF or leave some blank (unpartitioned) space for OS X to use and then create your OS X partition(s) in that space using Disk Utility. Unfortunately, not all disk utilities can create partitions with arbitrary type codes, so creating a type-0xAF partition may not be possible using whatever you're using to create partitions. If you delete your existing partitions, they're gone. I don't know precisely what you're referring to when you refer to a "recoverable" erasure, but I wouldn't count on it being so. The usual meaning of such terms in this sort of context deals with use of advanced low-level utilities. Given the problems you're having, I suspect that you would find such utilities absolutely bewildering and unusable. Furthermore, if you delete your existing partitions and create new ones in their place, it's virtually certain that your new Mac OS partitions would overwrite some old data, making it unrecoverable even to experts who are paid hundreds of dollars an hour to recover data. In other words, don't even think about deleting any partition that holds an OS or data you want to preserve. You can resize partitions using various utilities, but don't delete a partition and then expect to get it back later. Check the various "sticky" guides in the Leopard installation forum, or one of the guides referenced here, for more detailed step-by-step instructions on OSx86 installation; however, be aware that installing OS X on non-Apple hardware isn't easy. There are just too many hardware variants for any one procedure to be both 100% complete and 100% accurate. You're almost certain to run into problems and will have to deviate from the instructions you've got to get it to work. Can some1 tell me a method to install MAC and not lose window (or any content for that matter) and be able to choose which operating system i would like to boot at start up I will really appreciate any help offered. Thanks a lot! the problem i faced was due to the fact that the partition i created using "diskmgmt.msc" was a logical disk. I managed to make that a primary partition with command line DISKPART command. Installed iDeneb on the dedicated partion, without comprasiming windows and can view all files n drives from my OS Leopard. EasyBCD was used to manage both bootloaders. thanks for the info Rod, but indeed that was the problem. i didnt use any 3rd party partitioners, i used diskmgmt.msc to shirk the disk. the mistake i initially made was to label the volume. it was then that i got the "illogical partition" error msg. so i deleted the partition i had created and extended my drive to the original size. Next i shrunk it again (to whatever size i needed) and left it as "unallocated". opened up cmd and used the DISKPART command to create a partition (id=af) and then tried the installation onto that new partition. everything worked smoothly. the only issue i face now is with some of my hardware -viz. wireless &sound- not working (guess i didnt select the right options in the "customize" menu, during installation. but thanks again for the info Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/186046-will-windows-get-deleted-after-installing-ideneb-v13-osx-1055/#findComment-1264085 Share on other sites
