ScottieBoi
ok.... I have 10.4.6 installed and working great. Sound, Video, and now Networking is working great. Now I'm moving onto DVD. I know this may be a hopeless option...but am still on my quest to make OSX as usable as I can on my PC. Ok, so OSX recognizes my DVD Rom and Writer. If I stick in a DVD, using the OS DVD Player it gets an error saying "There was an initialization error. A valid video device could not be found for playback. [-70017]. I have an Nvdida GEForce 6800 Ultra card in my PC. It is recognized in "About this Mac" as GEForce 6800 GTO. In fact, here is exactly what it says in About this Mac : GeForce 6800 GTO: Chipset Model: GeForce 6800 GTO Type: Display Bus: PCIe Slot: PCIE X16 SLOT VRAM (Total): 256 MB Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x00f9 Revision ID: 0x00a2 Displays: Color LCD: Resolution: 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Not Supported Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported If I try to use a different player like VLC, It opens the player and I can actually hear sound from the Disc for a second, but a blackscreen in the playback window. Then, it shuts down and gives me a long error report, which I won't post here unless asked to do so. So my question....is this just because OSX wasnt designed to run with an Nvdida card? Is this something I should just give up on, or do you genuises that reside in these forums have some kinda tweak I might use. I ask because it seems like you guys have helped me get everything else working (some without me even having to ask)...why not try this with this too! I try to only ask one question at a time...and can't wait to move to printers! LOL As always, thanks for any help. Korrupted
You need to have QE for DVD player to work. Nvidia cards don't have QE yet(Macvidia). Try VLC or Mplayer OSX until then. dashaund
You need to have QE for DVD player to work. Nvidia cards don't have QE yet(Macvidia). Try VLC or Mplayer OSX until then. Mine has QE enabled. I have a 6600GT. On the installation CDs, most have an Nvidia or NV40 patch as an optional install. On the Tubgirl 10.4.9 release that I'm using, NV40 is an option. CI and QE make a HUGE difference. Allowing the video card to fully accelerate and offloading that work from the processor makes it feel 100x faster. It works great. I'm not 100% sure, but I would think that you could track down that NV40 patch somewhere and install it after the installation. And I used VLC for a while...to me, DVD Player looks a lot cleaner and sharper...just my opinion.
