Hi guys,

I've been booting fine for months now with iATKOS 4i, but I accidentally let leopard automatically update the OS. Now it won't let me boot at all...when the apple logo appears, I get an error message saying "please hold down your power button for a few seconds to reboot" or something like that. I have gone on the windows side of my computer (a dell inspiron 1318), and I was able to use MacDrive to access the Leopard partition, so I know all my files are working/safe, but aside from using MacDrive, I can't access them any other way. Is there some command line that I can enter in Darwin that will get this working? I don't know enough about mac language to try anything out. Thanks in advance for your help.

You may boot with the install DVD (iAtkos) and use the Terminal from an Utilities menu. But you need to know what do you want to use it for.

If you have an Extensions folder backed up, then restore it (replacing the existing one). It is also necessary to restore the custom kernel. If there is no Extensions backup, then it is much more difficult situation. You need to replace some extension (got to know which one were original kexts and which one were custom one).

An update replaces some kexts with the newer one. So if you restore back thous replaced kexts, and replace the vanilla kernal (an update installs it too), then there is a chance to have it back working.

The easiest thing to do in this situation is to copy all necessary stuff with the MacDrive and do a clean install.
