join join
Hello everyone, I've got a laptop (Toshiba Satellite P200-157 PSPBGE) with OS X.5 on it. It is a very compatible laptop (except for audio which is hard to get working correctly) but I've got some big problems with it... First, I've installed iATKOS 10.5.7 and iPC 10.5.6 onto it (not at the same time ) and I've got the same problem, with different configurations and different kernels (I tried different Voodoo's, modbin...). Randomly (it can happen quickly or after many hours of use), a random application (like Firefox, Safari, Transmission, but never Mail or Adium for instance) turns into a CPU-hog (sometimes more than 100% of the CPUs are used, confirmed by Activity Monitor) and the computer suddenly becomes sllloooowwww... When I quit all the applications (except Finder), the speed comes back, but then when I launch any application, it becomes slow again. The only solution is to reboot (because sometimes, quitting the session doesn't make it). The only constants in all the configurations I tried are : the VoodooPS2Controller (with Trackpad) kext, and Chameleon 2 RC2. I have to notice that I never managed to get sleep working. I decided to try with the vanilla kernel, because my chipset is ICH7 and my proc is a compatible Core Solo. It never booted with the vanilla kernel. The boot process stops very quickly, near the first line mentioning the word "MAC", but I never could read what was written exactly because it reboots instantly. Even a camera couldn't take a photo of it ! I can't belive it doesn't work with such a chipset/processor couple because I've got another laptop (but headless, ie. without the screen part, so very annoying for travelling) with the same chipset and nearly the same processor (Asus A8Jc, very good host for Leopard, even without its "way too glossy" screen which hurts my eyes) and the vanilla kernel works very well, everything works (although I haven't got the sleep function working, maybe I don't know how to do it). Anyone could suggest anything about this ? Perhaps someone has the same laptop and doesn't have problems with it, so he/she could tell me how he/she managed to install Leopard. I wanted to give Snow Leopard a try with this laptop, to see if it solves these issues, but I'm afraid the vanilla kernel won't boot... Thank you for your help. join join
I would add that this random CPU issue also takes place with Snow Leopard 10.6. I don't know where I can search for a solution.
