Hello there,

I've just sold my Mac Pro. I'd like to build a Mac using generic components.

I've been reading around the forum and the wiki pages, but many mobos seem to suffer from issues.

Is there a list of the best (as in most compatible, problem free) boards? I'd love to build an i7 based Mac, but this is the first time I've attempting running OS X on anything other than a Mac.

I'm hoping to run 10.6 and Vista on separate drives. There's so much information on these pages sometimes it's tricky to find what's needed.

A few helpful hints and links would be much appreciated.

Roy.

You have already found the best site for everything to do with this, I understand that it is all a bit daunting on this site, and you have to read through hundreds and hundreds of threads to get the answers, but it is worth it.

Other interesting links for your particular question would be to start by looking at HCL's or Hardware compatability lists, there is one on this site, here is the link http://www.insanelymac.com/osx86db/ this list is alright, however the commenting is poor, so there is another good one here http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

You should be able to get a good start with this lot. The next step is to go to this site, I can not give the link cause this site kicks it out, for some odd reason. I do not want to break the rules so sorry, but try a search in google like this and you may find it. osx86tools, go back to the main home page and click on Hardware.

This should get you going, you may bump your vista after a week or so of OSx86 :(
