Hey everyone,

I've been attempting to install Snow Leopard onto my DFI LanParty JR P45 (previously using EFI-X) and am coming up against a rather annoying problem. After following the direction LifeHacker posted (http://lifehacker.com/5351485/how-to-build-a-hackintosh-with-snow-leopard-start-to-finish) I was able to boot into the installer without issue (which was awesome). but when I tried to used Disk Utility to repartition my SSD drive (OCZ Vertex Series OCZSSD2-1VTX120G) the utility seemingly hung half way through the formatting. I tried restarting the PC and installer actually recognized the partition and tried to install to it. I thought everything was fine but the actual install was going at a rate so slow it didn't seem to be moving. I left it installing with an approximate time of 30 minutes and came back 3 hours later to find it only still saying there was 28 minutes left. Looking at the HDD activity light it only seemed to flash very briefly only once every few minutes.

So, does anyone have any ideas? I've been searching around and having found much related to running on a DFI board but since the fools at EFI-X seemed able to do it, I can't imagine it's too far off.

If someone suggests it might not be possible, can someone recommend a good M-ATX board I can use as a replacement?

Thanks in Advance and please let me know if more information is needed.

I have an almost identical setup. I'm no expert on these things so please don't do anything rash based on my conjecture and speculation. But I wonder if it isn't a problem with the OCZ vertex. My vertex was giving me lots of grief when I was using an EFI-X.

I might try and update the firmware on the vertex.

I'm going to be undergoing the same process in a day or two. I'm planning on using a normal sata drive just to try and remove one wacky variable. If things work and I'm feeling greedy I might re-install with the vertex.

I'll keep you posted on any successes or failures, please do likewise, or even if you find a solid thread about these DFI boards.

all the best,

Clark

Hey Clark,

Alright, it's a deal. I'm going to snag a normal hard drive from work tomorrow and give it a go and will definitely report back to this thread. I think between the two of us, we'll be able to sort this out.

I did take one step backwards though and am now having issues getting into the installer itself (the bootloader works fine and the white screen with the grey apple comes up but it doesn't ever seem to get into the installer itself.) but I'm going to redo my usb stick tomorrow and set it back to what it once was (I tried the 10.3 EFI Bootloader instead of the 10.1 I had originally) and try again with a standard hard drive.

Not sure if you're also on the efi-xusers forum but I've got a post there with someone that has been able to get SL up and running on a DFI. Unfortuntely, I haven't gotten a response there yet but I'll keep checking ( http://www.efixusers.com/showthread.php?t=118 ).

Also, I found this page: http://aserebln.blogspot.com/2009/07/20.html which might help a bit since it seems like the author has the same setup and is also transition from an EFI-X dongle (not sure if you are or not but I am) so that might help as well. I'm going to reread all of it tomorrow from work... Yeah, I'm going to be a slacker!

Anyway I'll post back in another day or so but glad to finally have someone to stumble along with me.

Speak soon and happy hacking until then!

Just to follow up for any DFI users here.

I'm keeping an open thread about my progress (of which I've made a lot) on the EFIXUsers boards.

Hope it's okay to post a link. The thread can be found here: http://www.efixusers.com/showthread.php?t=233
