PATA Help

My PATA Optical drive doesnt show up

 

I checked in system profiler under ATA

It reads "This system does not contain any ATA devices. If you have any ATA devices installed, please check that they are connected and powered on."

 

Im sure it connected and powered properly

 

Any suggestions?

Are there some missing kexts?

I guess the IOATAFamily.kext may be the problem. Ever it is not fully compatible with the system, or you have some other SATA controller related kext which isn't quite suitable for the system. There also may be some kexts interfering each other, so making the problem.

 

To test it out, try installing this http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=88335 IOATAFamily.kext. It may be needed to insert a Device Vendor ID of the controller in to the AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext (inside the IOATAFamily.kext plugins folder).

 

Don't forget to chose the right version matching system's kernel.

i'm like a n00b at all this can someone please give me a walkthrough

i cant afford to mess my system cause my exams are going on and i have no time to restore it
