The installation works, but no icons

This may seem like a dumb question, but I'm not familiar with Macs at all. Everything seems to be fine, except that after using the nvidia installer for the graphics card I have (nvidia 7800 gt 256 MB) the resolution is too large to display any icons on my screen. I can right click, add a new folder, but that's pretty much it becaues I can't see the apple symbol or the HDD icon or anything. Any info or guides would help thank you!
