Before I even go through the hassle of downloading the DVD and attempting to install it I just would like to see if my laptop would be able to handle this.

I am not that great with x86 operation systems other than Windows, so I just am not sure that this will work. I tried installing Mandriva Linux and it can't find a driver for my hard drive, and booting from a Linspire disc always results in a kernel panic.

Therefore, I am hoping *cross fingers* that Tiger would be able to install on this.

Toshiba M45-S265

1.6 GHz Centrino (Pentium M 730)

512 MB RAM (DDR SDRAM, but I dont think that matters)

100 GB HD --- would a 15 GB partition for Tiger be good enough?

128 MB shared video RAM (Intel chipset)

15.4 inch widescreen - 1280x800 resolution (is this supported)

So yeah anyway, just wanted to check to make sure this would work OK before i go and spend 4 days downloading it from a Torrent.

By the way: I am not a complete n00b in the computer world: I have been a member of ieXbeta for 3 years and have 700 posts and a member of Macrumors.com for a year with 120 posts: I go for quality, not quantity.

I have installed in a M45s351

Your Harddisk is SATA but I couldn´t install it directly from the DVD

I partitioned the disk (15 GB is Fine!) to leave space for OSX and used VMWare to install it, selecting the whole disk as target, and the partition in the installer.

Ethernet and wireless don´t work

Sound is fine

I get 1280x800 with accelerated graphics (QE+CI) but booting with a external monitor attached (I disconect it after login)). You just have to edit the Kexts for appleintel915.kext (Search in other forums!)

The hard drive in the M45-s265 is NOT SATA, it is ATA-6. I was going to see about installing on my laptop, but if this is the kind of "expertise" I can expect here, then perhaps I won't bother?

I don't need a Macintosh, I just need to be able to access the features of the OS so I can help troubleshoot other people's Macs, But perhaps I'll just buy a Mac and not worry about this piddly little community who don't seem to know what they're talking about. This isn't the only error I've seen, but is the one that made me register just to tell you people that you don't know what you're talking about. Even a quick Google search would tell you what kind of hard drive the machine has in it. AND YES, the M45-s265 IS DIFFERENT THAN YOURS!

And for the guy who posted the first message, it's "OPERATING SYSTEM". And saying "BTW, I'm not a complete n00b" Makes you one instantly right there. Just because you post 1000 posts in some idiotic rumor-mill don't mean you know jack {censored} about computers. I assume, by "quality", you mean the same spelling and grammar errors and lack of comprehension that you have showed in this post?

Finally, you, other guy, what Satellite did you install on? An M series? Or something else? Just because it's a Satellite don't mean it's anything close to the M45-s265. It's like saying the Macintosh Classic is the same thing as a Macintosh Performa 400, because they are both Macintosh. Well, they sure as hell are a world of differant other than the "Mac" name and Apple logo, and SOME code portability.

Is there anyone on this forum that actually knows the situation and can reply with an educated, coherent response?
