I do have ECS 945 something motherboard (intel graphic) and two SATA HD, one for WinXP and another for 10.4.5 I did install them separately (means XP installed on 1 HD and the OSX on the second) then I simple press F11 on start up and choose which HD to start 1-XP or 2-OSX, it works perfectly I know that many motherboard allow you to press some button on start up to choose boot device... no problems with boot.ini or chain0 etc...
